Default stock air inake pipe vs. Joe Z

just installed Joe Z intake pipe, very easy and looks way trick!! Can anyone explain why the airflow is so much better. The stock pipe appears to be very smooth except for the ribbed section. Also not sure how the resonator works or how it could potentially cause restriction? Thanks!!

Very simple. The ribbed section causes air turbulence. The idea is to keep the air flow smooth into the intake plenum without any kind of restriction. The resonator is designed to quiet the sound. Joe Z's design allows for free flowing, unrestricted air flow.
