Default Top speed in each gear?

After reading some of the complaints by journalists that the F has too many gears I got to wondering just how much of an issue would this really be on most road courses. My guess is you would probably never go above 6th unless maybe you are at LeMans. I get that if 2nd and third are too short it could make for more shifting between corners on tighter tracks, but since I have never tracked the F I haven't a clue.

Anyways, what is the top speed at redline for each of the F's gears assuming stock diameter tires and stock gearing? If you don't have the manufacturer's data please don't go out on public roads to do the research.

I have to dig up the rest of the data, but thats all I have for now..

1st =
2nd =
3rd =
4th =
5th =
6th = 170 mph
7th = 170 mph
8th = 170 mph

Someone with an owners manual, check to see if it's listed in there..

Limited to 170 I see. Has anyone attempted the mod to remove the limiter to see just how fast she'll go?

YOu'll never hear me complain about too many gears. I love 'em all......and been waiting for this tranny for decades.....

Tiff Nedall of Fifth Gear did a run around their track in England and didn't get past 5th gear at about 220 kph if memory serves.

Only change I'd make is to a numerically higher rear end ratio. In the realm of 4:1.

Top speed in each gear I don't know yet.

Thanks for the replies.

It appears that for all practical purposes on the track this car would be a six speed. Hopefully I can actually get a track and see for myself how the tranny works in that environment.

I don't have an issue with the 8 speed. The only time I ever see it as a hindrance is if I'm cruising at freeway speeds in eighth and decide I really want to be in third for a quick pass. The thing is if I'm driving aggressively and using the paddles I rarely use 7th or 8th.
