Default borla exhaust finally ready

spoke with Glenn Weiss Borla Cust. Service Mgr. today and he said IS-F exhaust has been completed and will be on their website for sale by end of this month. The system is a cat back good for @ 8-10 HP increase and did not opt. for axle back as that would make it "technically not for street use". Said has a deap throaty sound but not to loud. May be a good compromise between Joe Z and stock. I'm sure money will also come into play when making a decision and although he did not share price most cat backs seem to be in the @ $ 800.00 range.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Regardless, nice find!

By the time it's released, close to everyone will have already purchased the Joe-Z setup. I am anxious to hear what it sounds like though, they make some nice products. Was their R&D done by anyone on CL? I thought it was

I thought cat-back is AFTER the cats and axle-back is like after the resonators. Isn't the Joe Z PTS technically more "in between cat" exhaust since it removes the secondary cats? So confusing... I also thought that something that is technically not for street use is one that actually removes cats but resonators and muffler changes were okay (as long as they're not too loud).

I just checked Borla's catalog. Nothing listed for the IS-F, as indicated above. For the IS-350 they list two systems, both cat. back. The first is listed as the competition system, is full dual, eliminates the secondary cats and includes dual resonators and lists for $1326.00. The second system is secondary cat back, is full dual, no resonators and lists for $1224.00. This is their street system. I would expect the F to follow the model of the 350. Borla has never been my cup of tea. Lots of little pieces, lots of chances for leaks. Workmanship, IMHO, is mediocre.

sounds interesting, 8-10hp that sounds kind of low considering if its going to be cat back and maybe secondary cat delete.

There seems to be a little misunderstanding here. Please bear with me while I try and explain what I believe to be currently and will be available for the F, as far as exhausts are concerned. As configured from the factory the F ships with a two into one into two exhaust system. What that means is the two exhaust manifolds dump into two Primary catalytic converters (cats) on each side of the engine. These in turn dump into two head pipes, then two secondary cats than they merge and flow thru one high capacity straight thru muffler, AKA resonator, they then split back into two pipe and exit at the rear thru 2 mufflers. A pict. of the stock system is attached. The rear of the system is closest to you.

The simplest type of after market system is the axle back system. This keeps all the forward plumbing and just replaces the rear section, complete with mufflers. It is, to the best of my knowledge, street legal in all states. An example of this is the Tanabe system. A pict of stock rear section is is attached, notice the crush it the Y. This is not good for flow.

This is the Tanabe system. Notice, what I believe to be a Y with too small a capacity Y, just before the split. This system adds power by using low restriction mufflers, and is louder than stock.
