Default Extrudehone?

Hello all,

I just joined the forum and have enjoyed reading the many threads on performance mods and etc. I've got a 2008 mercury metallic ISF.

I'm considering the Joe Z exhaust and intake. Has anyone considered getting and extrude hone of their intake? Any pros or cons?

Thanks,

Tom

Extrude honing should never be used on intake manifolds or cylinder heads. The abraisive medium removes the same amount of material from all surfaces it comes into contact with. When porting intakes/heads, whatever, you want to remove material from some places, leave it alone in others, and in some cases add material (welding, epoxy) in others.
If you're running FI (forced induction) you won't lose as much power as you will N/A using extrude honing since the blower/turbo supplies all the velocity. EH'ing a N/A top end is essentially suicide as far as performance goes, kiss low end and midrange goodbye.
The only thing I've seen EHing really work on is porting OEM exhaust manifolds--just buy headers and you'll be a lot better off.

Speaking of headers, cough cough. How's everything going with R&D for the ISF headers/exhaust etc? Haven't heard from you in a while Andy. Hope all is well.

Hey,
Sorry, been traveling for the past few weeks. We still need a donor IS-F to get started. I've had maybe a half dozen people expressing interest but no solid commitments as of yet.

Thanks
Andy

You think I when they are made they could be purchased seperately... like for example if I have the JoeZ exhaust could I buy just the headers or would I have to purchase the headers AND exhaust together...

I would if mine wasn't a daily driver =(, I'd send ya mine..

Hey Andy, you can play with my car if you decide to do the R&D in South Florida... or you can take it to your shop and do it locally (as long as I can have your C63 so I can go to work)... LOL
