Well I just went out tonight to try out my 1/4 mile time again on my Gtech Pro SS meter. Sport mode, VSC fully turned off and in manual paddle shift mode.
Conditions:
5 degrees C / 41 degrees F clear night
Elevation AMSL +3557 ft
roads were smooth surfass and dry
Results:
60' 2.158
0-60 4.586
330' 5.652
1/8 mile 8.501@89.01 mph
1000' 10.914
1/4 12.931@112.31 mph
This run was done with a tq braking launch@1600-1700 rpms. I am quite new at drags and this is my first time trying it out so I know my launch needs work as u can tell by my 60' time.
Anyways it was a bit of a improvement from my last run with vsc not fully turned off at 12.957@111.7mph but only shaved a few hundredths...
I also tried a run tonight without tq braking launch and i hit a time of 12.94@112.39mph so I think it has to do something with my launch. Anyhow any advice on how to do a proper tq braking launch on the ISF? Help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

Well, first of all, there is no magic way of launching the car. Depending on conditions and road surface depends on how you launch the car. For example, when I ran my 12.55 I was able to leave on the brake at 1,800 rpm and it dead hooked. I think I could have gotten away with 2,000 rpm but ran out of time to run the car. Then, a few weeks later, I was on the street and it was chilly outside (50 degrees) and the pavement was cold. I layed into off idle and it smoked the tires. Unfortunately there is no "magic answer" to your question.

I asked Sir Cayman this a while back and he had some good tidbits:
1. Have less than a 1/4 tank of gas
2. Remove spare tire, engine cover, tools etc.
3. VSC on, Sport mode, full manual using paddles, brake launch at 2,000 rpm
4. Cook your tires in 2nd gear before your pass
I would love to see some passes from the intake/exhaust crowd in here

Hi Andy,
A bit off topic here just wondering of you're from Alberta as noted on your profile. I'm from Calgary and picking up my 09 F Obsidian/ Terra Cotta tomorrow. If you are in Alberta I wouldn't mind connecting sometime and exchanging stories.
Thanks,
geees

Just so I have the straight...hold the brake down all the way...get the RPM between 1600 and 2000 and then on the launch, left off the brake and slam the gas at the same time?
I am just trying to understand what is needed. I have M3's to eat at the track in less than 4 weeks.

Hey guys well I did this run with just a bit over a half a tank of gas. Also I didn't really warm up the tires much cuz I didn't want to wake up the neighborhood as there were some trailers in the area on the road in the booneys that I tested on.
Also I've tried left foot brake and reving up to 1700 rpms and then left foot off and slamming it. My car just kept spinning all the way in 1st gear so I don't think flooring it is the way to do it. I feathered the throttle about 3/4's then once i got traction then I floored it.
Alot of my friends tell me my time being slow has to do something with Calgary's Elevation. So in the summer I going for a road trip to Edmonton, AB and Vancouver BC to the drag strips and compare cuz their elevation is alot lower then ours. They said they guarranty I'll get a quicker time in Vancouver for sure. I'll just have to wait and see.

VSC off will get u alot more power to the wheels for sure as I've tried no launching with VSC on and I did a time of 13.1@110 mph then I tried with VSC fully off and did a time of 12.94@112.39 mph.

This is correct. I never said to keep VSC on. Always turn off all the nannies at the track, heat up the tires and as HoustonT said, play around with the launch as it's different every time based on track prep, temp, weight, etc.

Statistically, I've noticed NO improvement with braking vs. just mash the gas. My stock PS2s were only good for about 1.99-2.0 60' times, RE050s on 18s were good for 1.90s and my MT on 18s were only good for 1.94s I usually run at least a dozen runs each time I go and so far, no statistical improvement with brake torqueing. Here's a link to my best 1/4 miles. The mods were lightweight 18" rims, RE050 tires (not really a mod), removed spare and jack and engine cover.
