I would do a claybar before going aggressive with any compound.
Have to get it off right away. I pour some water on it let it soften up for a few minutes, wipe off the water and then hit it with a quick detailer, or if I'm home wash the whole car. Then check to see if you need to hit with a clay bar. But never use harsh chemicals on your paint, they can soften the clear coat, etch into it, or turn it cloudy.
remember that if you do use a claybar, you have to rewax that area. claybars remove stuff ON the paint like bird crap, tree sap, etc. and even car wax.
