Like many cars the IS-F launch coincided with the begining of the market/economy collapsing. I think Lexus is smart enough to see there is true value in the car and it would sell better (like a lot of other cars) when the economy is better. Lexus does not jump into things to drop them and they don't just walk away from the game. If history has shown us anything, Lexus watches/pays close attention and evolves the car. The only failure in Lexus history that they gave up on (in other words, no 2nd model) was the IS Sportcross which many of us predicted would fail as wagons are just small, niche segments.
Look at how far the IS has come in 10 years. IS 200 only in Europe with a weak 2.0 liter I-6 good for 160hp. We got the IS 300 in 2001 with a 3.0 V-6 with 215hp. Then the IS 220d/250/350 debuts. Finally the "skunk works" project the IS-F.
Remember the IS-F WAS NOT A PLANNED LEXUS PRODUCT. Next generation, it will be a part of the program.
As for the GS-F, it would only make sense to evolve the "F" marque. BMW will be releasing a 600hp or so twin turbo V-8 or V-10 M5 next go round. THe RS6 has a twin turbo V-10 with 562hp not imported here. The E63 has 511 or so hp.
The 4.6 in the current GS 460 barely fits. It DOES NOT have a dual intake like the LS, thus the drop in HP.
The IS Skunkworks project was appealing b/c it was about fitting the biggest engine in the smallest Lexus. The GS-F with the same engine doesn't make much sense and Lexus doesn't have a bigger one.
We can only hope a detuned V-10 from the LF-A makes it in the next GS-F.

Of course its going to be the engine from the LF-A. They will also cut costs if they use the same engine. We know they are not going to develop a new engine or tune the IS-F engine for the GS-F.
We are not even sure what the next gen GS is going to look like but really do you guys think it will b e able to give the Jaguar XFR, the new 600HP M5 and the E63?
They could nail the speed becuas each one of these cars are producing 0-60 times in the 4.2-4.5 range and quarter miles from 12.3-12.7 but what about the slalom and skidpads that's where they need to move up a notch from the IS-F to compete and gain some valid respect.
