I've done this process many times for our BMW clients and also on my personal cars. Keep in mind smoked lenses only "work" on certain color car combos. It should be done in minimal amounts for a tasteful classy appearance. I can't stand cars that have their entire tails smoked as it just give a cheap ghetto'd look (not to mention illegal).
For my white IS-F, I felt smoking only the clear portions was adequate to give the look I want. I did something similiar to this on my e46 m3 smoking only the clear portions and keeping the red stock as the contrast is clean.
This procedure is 100% reverseable with on effecfs on the stock lense if done properly. I'm doing this same treatment to my front amber lenses embedded inside the headlights!
enjoy,
rick

personally i am not a fan of it. i'd either leave it stock or tint them red and blend in with the rest of the headlights. now it looks kind of weird
but then again i am conservative i guess

thanks for the input guys!
I think the problem here with the smoke is that it's a few shades too dark......appreciate the responses.
We did this before for my m3 and it's quite a bit lighter.

I think I took that picture with too little light ~ it was 7 am this morning in the shade when I snapped that pic. I also thought it was too dark but this afternoon it looked much lighter...I will re-take a picture when I have free time but it looks more like this shade on my m3 clear section.
