New rear view mirror
#106
How is that all of you guys have success with replacing the new mirror without problem and I have to go through so much crap with Sterling McCall Lexus!?!?!
I called them up asking for a replacement and as usual a whole bunch of BS. They claimed they replaced a new rear view mirror and inserted some kind of magnetic ball inside to balance everything which I think it's total BS. The rear view mirror looks the same. And of course, it still vibrates. I called them up again, emailed the technician with all the TSB number, this forum's link and pictures and all they said was we replaced the same exact parts you stated, which is another total BS. Here's the reply I just sent to the technician:
Hi,
If it was the same, then how would my current rear view mirror look the same from this:

Here's a picture I took of my current rear view mirror:

Do you see how the old rear view mirror buttons are all at the bottom and the new ones are all up front?
I really do wish you guys can co-operate with me. This is not a $20,000 dollar car we're talking about here, it's a $65,000 car. I've paid so much money on a vehicle like this and the most common used function of the car has problems. Not to mention, I'm a car enthusiast, not your average customer. I chose this car over every other competitors such as the BMW M3 and the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG because I know the quality and performance of a Lexus.
Also, the previous technician/installer told me you guys put some kind of magnetic ball inside the mirror to balance everything and to prevent it from shaking which is, in my opinion a big lie.
I'd appreciate it if you give me a call or reply my email in a timely manner because driving the vehicle with a vibrating mirror rear view is not very safe. I can't even see if a cop is 500 ft behind me.
Thank you,
Anson

Same problem here with an IS250 2009 !!!
I have never ever had a car wich had a vibrating mirror problem, i have a Racing sound system with big damn speakers and amp in my 3000GT ! and never dose it shake!
I took my car to the dealer in Sweden, and the first one said they will replace it, wich they say they did but its the same as the oem! and same shaking
And the other dealer says that there is no replacement!!! and they are the only 2 dealers in Stockholm sweden!!!
I plan to go again and make a serios talk to them , cause i aint accepting a Lexury car wich have a vibratin mirror when a damn kia or skoda dosent vibrate !

Months ago I got my rearview mirror replaced and they installed the same kind of mirror as before. Last week I took the car to the dealer because my subwoofer was bad (diagnostic said speaker coming apart) so I got it replaced, but I decided to complain about the mirror. Well, they replaced it as well and now I have the same new mirror as everyone else in this thread. Much firmer mirror.

^^^ I know about speakers so I knew the sub was cracked. The sound was bad at anything over 17 (volume level), bad crackling noise. The dealer's diagnostic was "speaker coming apart" (Lexus of North Miami).

I just got the fix done under warranty, but mirror still vibrates, not as much, but the vibration is quite noticeable because the view in the mirror is not clean....it is more like microvibrations...like a sonic toothbrush sortof....
The problem apparently is the windshield. The windshield itself is not mounted "solid" and if I hit the windshield with my palm, the mirror vibrates.
I had a ES350 loaner and the mirror vibrates in that too.....Lexus is going down the drain.

Here is another test......open your door, sit in the seat, keep looking at the rear view mirror and close the door. The mirror will shake. WTF. This little test is sending out disturbing signals to me. What I conclude is that the A-pillars and the front cross beam structure are not solid. That is scary.

i had mine replaced with a different mirror by Fresno Lexus over a year ago, it still vibrates like a female toy although not as badly. i suggest get it done only if it is not too much trouble, o/w i don't see enough improvement to justify the time and sweat. it's probably related to poorly designed aerodynamic around the open moonroof and the mirror, fixing one or the other is unlikely to remedy both problems.
One thumb down for Lexus. Even my 9 year-old S2000 with top down does not vibrate that much.

My replacement was good for the first few months, now vibration appears to have returned, especially every time the sunroof is open. One time it was vibrating so hard it was as if I had 20in subs in my trunk, but radio was off. All went away when sunroof was closed. Wonder if I have a bad windshield?
