We know the truth now, but I'm having difficulty with the procedure if someone could explain in more detail the pedal positions and if the emerg pedal is left engaged or not before the brake pedal pump.

Cheers,
Colin
Hey Colin..

Here it is..

Start Car with Parking Brake Pedal engaged and Brake Pedal held down
Once Gauges cycle..
Pump Brake Pedal twice and hold down
Pump PB Pedal twice and lock down
Pump Brake Pedal twice and hold down

Trac and/or Vsc Lights should light up

Give it a try and let me know if that worked..

Regards,

Joe Z

So I validated this over the weekend at CMP. Without the electronic diff, I was getting inside wheel spin exiting 8 a couple of times. It sounded like I had a bad clutch. When I used the button to turn off the VSC, I didn't get wheel spin.

In any case, it is clear doing the pedal dance DOES disable the electronic differential control where the VSC off button does not.

Glad to see you confirmed this as well...!!!

So let’s say I slap an entire 2010 Torsen LSD in my rear...
In order to make sure I get full use out of it, I would do the pedal dance to disable the ELSD function.. (on track day) Right ?

Any other time I don't see the harm it can have by having the ELSD "on" and a mechanical LSD unit installed in the diff.. (for normal driving)

For others just joining us, this above scenario only applies to 08-09 IS-F's

Hey Joe,

Thats right. To fully take advantage of it, do the "pedal dance" to disable all electrical traction aids. Leaving it on otherwise should pose no issues. The diff should work seamlessly with the existing traction program. I spoke with my local shop who did a Differential swap on my Cayman and we saw no potential issues with the IS-F after we put it on lift and took a look under it. I plan to hopefully do the swap this summer. Will keep everyone updated.

That's good to hear Kevin!!

Are you going with the OEM Torsen gear type LSD
or
clutch type like OS Giken, Toms or Cusco ??

I'm waiting to hear from some people installing clutch units. Torsen would not fix the problem I experienced at CMP - I'd need more left front spring to keep the inside tire on the ground out of turn 8.

I will be retrofitting the 2010+ oem unit. I don't want to deal with any maintenance or extra noise with any diff for a car used primarily on the street. A true LSD for this car IMO is overkill. As great as the is-f is, it's just too heavy for the track..

Awesome Kevin..!!

LMK if you need the part number..

It's cheaper the buy the entire 2010 differential & internals all together... As opposed to just buying the internal Torsen Diff/Gear alone.

How is this affected with the 2010 model that comes with Torsen diff? Can you still do this?

In the past I've had VSC completely OFF (pushing the VSC button for a few seconds until it shows the icon plus the OFF sign) and under certain conditions the VSC icon flashed, so your post makes a lot of sense. I'll try the computer code method today and post back my findings.
I think i have been laughing to myself for 30 minutes since reading this

So other than the dyno, or diagnostics of sorts, the pedal dance is pretty much pointless.

On the drag strip or the road course, pulling one leggers is a fail.

So unless we swap to 2010 LSD or real aftermarket LSD's forget about it, right?
