Exclamation Warning!!! (tires in cold weather)

Just a little heads up to some of you Northern ISF owners. When it gets into the 40's degree range outside our Bridgestone tires turn to ICE SKATES!! I was driving the other morning and road was 100% dry went to accelerate around a vehicle whom had stopped on a bend, already at about 15 to 20 mph, and gave about 40 to 50% throttle, and car went COMPLEATLY sideways!! caught me a little off guard, my fault on that part, but was NOT expecting to loose traction on a dry road. Lesson learned that these performance tires appear to become VERY hard when it gets cold out and 20min of driving does NOT warm them up! Use caution!

Good call.
My Michelins are the same: Strictly warm weather rubber. (over 50 degrees).

rarely will it ever get below 50 here at nights, so we in so cal are blessed with great driving weather...but that sliding was surely an experience no F driver wants, unless its maybe drifting...

Will do! Was just a real surprise to me when it happened, and not the type of external conditions one would expect such and event to take place. I am fortunate that I have had several track days, and auto cross frequently, so have the skills to catch this before it went VERY bad, but I am sure had my wife been driving the car I would have got the dreaded phone call
One would think with the VSC on and TRAC on I should have never had this problem in the first place...? Live and learn I suppose

You only get sideways when it's cold out and when you don't mean to? You must take the F out and have some fun!

Speaking of getting sideways... Last winter, while riding on my snow tires, I turned off all the electronic nannies in the snow (in a parking lot) and hit the gas pedal. WOW. What a rush. I thought I was going to hit a wall..

I thought this was relatively well known given that the OEM Michelins are basically ultra high-performance tires with a summer compound, not an all-season one. You will basically completely lose traction below 10 degrees Celsius, especially if the tires are badly worn out (they aren't known to last particularly long).

The car comes with a sticker with a warning concerning cold winter driving, at least up here.

That's funny. I bought my F in December and drove it in light snow in Atlanta. Tires (Bridgestone) were definitely not glassy - I know what that is very well from my Supra. They are getting thin though with about 16k on them.

I just drove ATL to DFW for the weekend on Friday and it rained solid all three days we were there and all the way from Alabama to Dallas on Friday. The return on Monday was MORE rain. At about 9pm after leaving on Monday we even got to thread around an F-150 who managed to get sideways entering the freeway, spun a full 360, and ended up parallel to the divider wall pointing in our direction. I was afraid he was going to bounce off the wall and back across the freeway and I didn't have enough room to come to a full stop, so I just braked hard, watched him come to a stop and swerved right to avoid him completely. As soon as I saw we were clear I hit it, but not too hard, and got away. Luckily there weren't any injuries, but I reckon that cowboy was cleaning his shorts after that.
