Whats with that sheet metal heat shield around the O2 sensor? Is it necessary? My shop said they never had seen that before.

Not heat, water - it's anti-splash. There is an opening on the O2 sensor to let atmospheric air into one side of the zirconium sensor. If it gets wet (or dirt in the holes), it will ruin the O2 sensor's ability to measure oxygen content.

Do you think they sell just the metal shields? In retrospect, I probably should have got my hands on this socket when I was installing..

So if dirt gets in them, would that effect the performance and not give me any codes? Or would it give me some sort of warning?

They were open ended, so if I were to hit a huge puddle or something, even with the shield on, it still could drench the O2 sensors with dirty road water.. They just would block the majority of stuff flying up, right?

Awww man!! Lol I ordered the All-Trade one. Could have saved a couple bucks :P Thanks though! I'll be reporting on the All-Trade set hopefully soon. Did you install the exhaust yourself?

Yeah, I live in a po dunk town, the local exhaust shop charged me 50 bucks to use their lift, I installed it from there (He helped a little).

Really is a piece of cake (depending on your abilities and past experiences).

The exhaust is incredible.

Personally I'd just order the snap on socket and wait.
Hope I can find one of these at either place tomorrow.

Had the car on Jack stands and was about to start taking off the oem exhaust. Luckily I first checked the fit of the 7/8ths I got from OReilly. Too short to reach the hexagon. Aborted the exhaust but at least I got my F sport sways on.

Good Call...!!

I had the same problem with the Autozone tool... It's shape at the neck was hitting the shield before barely reaching the nut..

The snap on & harbor freight ones have worked perfectly for us in the past..

Sorry to bring this thread back but....does the OEM brand 7/8" (22mm) pictured above work? I thought Joe Z said it was an option but then later in the thread said the Autozone one had some problems with hardly reaching.

Purchased the OEM brand one tonight and just want to make sure it works before I open it!

Have you guys been able to do the mid pipe on rhino ramps or with a jack. I don't have access to a lift.

I personally haven't tried the oem one in this thread. I've attached a photo of the type of socket I used to remove the sensors. Made it past the shield without issue. And yes, I took the exhaust off with just jack + stands.

Thanks, I might give it a try tonight with the ramps and or jack stands.
