Is Obsidian Metallic or Gloss?
Curious whether the Obsidian Black is a metallic or gloss. Haven't been able to tell from pics, and there are none in our area. Trying to decide between waiting for a good Matador Red or getting one of the 3-4 Obsidians from CarMax.
Thoughts welcomed, as well as things to look out for when looking for used.
I've been won over to the IS-F side vs. considering a new M3 (just sold my '97 E36 M3 4 dr which I've had since '01). Phenomenal Lexus quality & service, great warranty, outstanding performance envelope. You guys have a great car here. :-)
Thanks,
Stanford

Gloss. No mica or flake in Obsidian. It's a 97% black, one of the blackest in automotive colors.

Excellent. Many thanks. Had great luck with metallic black on my prior daily driver, but I may give the Matador Red a try. Looks VERY similar to the "Canyon Red" that I had on the Elise - really accentuates the curves of the car.
Thanks again,

if you're going for which car would reveal its curves more, definitely matador red mica. i adore my obsidian, but the curves dont really show on it unless im looking at it really close. even with a great polish and wax, the curves are barely shown, but i still love her!

I will vouch for Matador. It is a stunning color for the ISF.

If you are not dead set on black, I would highly suggest you get another color on this car! I love black cars and there was no question I wanted black, but so far this tempermental black paint has sucked to keep up. I love it when it is cleaned and waxed, but it scratches and swirls very easily. I really wish they would have offered a black metallic like my 135i or SRT8 Grand Cherokee. Neither is as good looking after a detail as Obsidian, but the other 99% of the time I'd take the metallic paint since it hides imperfections so much better.

^yup! keeping it clean is one difficult chore, but my obsidian still shines greatly. i love the matador red color, but there is a stigma on the road with red cars...cops love em!
