IS-F Intake Systems Verdict (revisited....)
hey fellas, I have the itch to do some more small mods to the IS-F and just realized my engine bay is stock!
I've read the reviews from other owners about the K/N and JoeZ systems. It seems like a mixed review as some love it, others feel it loses power.
But my biggest concern is does it change the way the car sounds on the throttle? I'm not as worried about power loss though it would be nice to not lose power or get CE lights, etc.
I've seen quite a few for sale in the classified which tells me owners try them but end up not liking the intake? Is this true?
TIA

I have had mine (K&N) for 6 months or so. I love it, I came from the Joe-z Intake. The sound is louder in the engine bay when opened throttle. I do not experience any loss (that I can tell anyway). It looks better to me in the engine bay, without that ugly black box in there. That is my opinion. But just like arseholes, everyone has one.

I have the JoeZ intake, and am very happy with it. I think it produced modest gains which would be difficult to evaluate except on a dyno. However it maintains/improves the stock appearance of the engine bay which I prefer. What I do not like about the K&N, is you loose the OEM look.

if you just want louder intake, the easiest and cheapest way is to take out the primary intake and disable the secondary intake by disconnecting the electrical connectors. fill the void where the primary intake used to sit with some insulation material and you would end up with a cold air intake with stock filter box.
if you are handy, this should not take more than 30 minutes.

Joe Z and Toms drop in for me. I've had my fair share of open element short ram intakes in my previous cars. Nothing beats the dual-stage airbox in the ISF.
