Piggyback systems on Toyota ECM's are temporary fixes aka band aids. The biggest problem these engines have are running either too rich when you open it up or gets really lean when you add F/I. That's great that it's been done. I can see you guys have tuning experience, but have you guys successfully done it on any Lexus, Toyota or Scion for that matter? If so, please share.

I have nothing against it at all, but I get pretty skeptical once someone says they have "successfully broken the ecu code". Many have made that claim here on CL for 10 years now...not one has produced any real reliable gains. I have yet to see anyone successfully piggyback tune ANY factory Toyota ecm here in the United States. Standalone...then that's a whole different story.

Keep us updated with your projects! We are all anxiously awaiting.

The only piggyback shown to work well so far is the HKS F-Con V. There's another outfit producing a piggyback style ECM for the 2AZ engines, but I have no direct experience with it. The F-Con works because it emulates the signals the OEM ECM wants to see while taking complete control from the OEM ECM and behaving as if it were a standalone.

I've been trying to find someone with the knowledge and skill to crack a Toyota ECM since 1995 without any luck. Lots of claims, none proven to modify the code successfully.

We are awaiting your results, but those of us who've been down the piggyback road are not optimistic.

I love all the un answered questions!! I guess I'll add one... Where did the crank come from? Has anyone made a stroker kit yet? This seems like a fun project to add some extra power.

Pistons and the requisite sleeves are available on eBay right now. Stroking the crank is very easy with custom rods and bearings. You just need a crank grinder to do and offset grind on the existing rod journals and voila! Stroked crank. That's probably why they have the aftermarket rods. You just need a standard bearing from an engine with a smaller rod journal diameter. Definitely NOT rocket surgery.
