I have new found appreciation for the Lexus IS-F

Pole Position
Technically speaking from the Firewall back, the IS-F body is identical in dimensions as a regular ISx50..
From the Firewall forward the IS-F Body & Chassis is different.. They did not drop the V8 into a basic 2IS chassis which was original designed for the V6's only in the front.
This is coming from a super reliable source I know in the industry...
Edit:
Also for those of you who didn't know, the rear axles on an IS-F are longer by approx. 1/4 of an inch.......
Which is mainly why a nice aggressive wheel that fits perfectly on the rear of ISx50 (with out fender shaving), does not fit on an IS-F perfectly unless the fender lip is shaved away....

Again this is something I read looooong time ago: the IS-F is 3" longer and 1" lower than the ISX50. It might be lower due to suspension, but I think longer means chassis.
At the office there is an IS250, IS350, and my IS-F. Parked next to each other my car looks bigger.

Wheelbase is identical. I have a parking stop in my garage I originally set for my 350. The F fit in the exact same space, but had slightly less bumper clearance because the F's front bumper sticks out just a little more.
Looking at the chassis dimension in the Collision Repair manual, the chassis both measure out the same. There is a tiny difference in the front apron, but my bet is this facilitates different suspension geometry since the F's standard alignment is quite a bit different from the ISx50 and the apron's location determines where the knuckle's upper ball joint is located in three dimensions.
I actually got curious yesterday and I will investigate whether the Supra's upper A arm will fit in the IS-F. It's forged aluminum and may make it possible to add a little negative camber to the front if it fits.

But only on top. Underneath, they're identical. Check page 5 on the IS-F and compare to the ISx50. All the underside numbers are exactly the same. The difference in the front is all on top. And we already know the hoods don't interchange, so it stands to reason the aprons are different.

More room up top for the V8.

The new Lexus IS F is a lot more than a big V8 stuffed into a small chassis. Yaguchi-san is well aware of that learning curve. The normal IS tub was deemed strong enough that the F model would not require the usual strengthening to accommodate all the specially developed sport parts. A 5.0-liter engine putting out 400-plus ponies and with 371 lb-ft of torque sounds more Roush than Munich, but the eight-speed direct-shift paddle gearbox is closer to Maranello than Tokyo. Yaguchi-san and his small hand-picked team tested the IS F on tracks all over Europe as well as at Fuji.
