So synthetic isn't really needed?? I always put Mobil 1 syn in my IS 300 and now that I have the F I was planning on using Royal Purple or AMSoil and doing the once a year oil change since I don't drive many miles..is my plan no good?

i had the dealer just do the labor on my oil change. i brought my 10 quarts of mobil 1 ($5.50 quart @ costco) and oil filter cartridge. charged me $32.50 out the door. they did the premium car wash on the house instead of the regular free wash. i trust this dealership. great place. brand new place in northern part of san diego. i usually wash my car at home, but they're really great. no damage whatsoever. best customer service i've ever received. they offered me the recall work and i said i'll think about it for the next time i bring the car in. i guess a perk they give you for doing the recall is a free tank of gas haha.

It's a matter of opinion I guess.

Lets put it like this... It does NOT come from the Factory with synthetic, so in my opinion its a waste...

My F is a FWY King, so I rack up 5k miles pretty quickly.
I just stick to the basics and I am very sure the Engine will do just fine for its lifetime, with the regular oil.

Now if you change your oil & filter like once a year due to low mileage, maybe then I would considering synthetic..

I'd tell a SA to perform the Maintenance Schedule in the manual rather than go by the Dealer's recommended-ripped-off schedule.

Yup! That dealership is ginormous. 4-stories high. You can play in their indoor virtual driving range or shoot a round haha. This is the same owner of Lexus Carlsbad.

At the dealership now. Full synthetic and NO on the software flash. I am also having them check out why everytime I take left or right from a stopped position, the tranny delays shifting, goes near redline. Also my breaks r squeaking a little. Will let u know the final price. thx everyone. After I get it home, I have to install my new Tom's LTC.

paid 230 out the door. the document said Mobil 1 5w-30 they changed the pedal out. He said rewaxed? the discs so the wouldnt squeak. Said the pads r still in great shape. They also did the "10K" service. At least it doesnt say they rotated tires or charged me for an air filter.

On the next 5K mile interval, instead of asking for a 15-K mile service, firmly request for "Synthetic Oil & Filter Change Only", which can't be more than $150. Moreover, the savings can be in couple hundred$ if replaced the Cabin Filter (A/C Filter) yourself.
