Default Sorry Another Brake Question....

The dealer informed me my front brakes are at 3.5mm they measured it with a mirror and an LED, so i need to actually remove the wheel this weekend and measure them myself. I find it hard to trust them when all they used was a mirror.... Even if they are not bad i think i will replace them regardless because i'm tired of the brake dust.

So my question is do i really need to replace the rotors after 15k miles? I was planning on inspecting them and just replacing the pads with Carbotech 1521 and leaving the rotors alone until 30k. Is this what ever one else has been doing?

On a side note i could not stop laughing when he quoted me $1300 for a brake job. To install 4 brake pads what a joke!!!

Thanks,

Ken

I've heard of people replacing at 15 & 20K. My front rotors had a lip from wear but I reused them with the Project Mu pads I installed and they are fine. The next time around I'lll have to buy new rotors though.

I think everyones situation is going to be different so I would measure yours and determine if they need to be replaced or can be reused.

I replaced my pads and rotors @ about 22K. It all depends on their wear.
My rear pads were the only bits not worn out at the time.

Which dealer was this?

Arrowhead lexus quoted me 2K for header install but 1300 for brake pads? Are you sure that was just for pads and not rotors too?

It was Lexus of Chandler and it did include rotors. I just have trouble believing my rotors will be shot after 15k especially since they are Brembo. But who knows maybe they are correct won't know until i pull the wheels off this weekend.

That $1300 price is for four brake pads and rotors. I paid that price and change when I had to put new pads and rotors on my F after only 11k miles.

Touareg is another vehicle known for its expensive brake jobs. Many owners ended up replacing their pad AND rotors at 15 - 25k. At first, they thought they got ripped off, too...

Interesting I could of sworn that price was for just the front brakes, either way it's still to steep for a standard brake job that I could easily do myself. I just need to decide if I want to replace the rotors.....

Anyone have details on how to replace the brakes on an ES350 2008? I think I can do it without any instructions but thought I would ask just in case.

Thanks!

Rear Pads: $160
Front Rotors: $400
Rear Rotors: $550
You got a killer deal.

So I went to Glendale Lexus with a one year old IS F 08 with brake squeal. They are changing the pads because of a brake bulletin. Are they just putting oem pads on or has Lexus ordered a new pad to solve the noise issue. I have nearly 9000 miles on the car. They are changing them under warranty. Thanks

Like others have mentioned, situations will vary from car to car depending on how it's driven. Some manufacturers don't even allow rotors to be resurfaced; I know some Jags are like that and they run Brembos as well.

Just created a step by on the fronts with the raybestos replacement rotors if anyone is interested. Pretty easy.
