Default Great experience with first oil change!

I decided to DIY my first oil change at 10000 miles (the dealer did the first one at 5000). It was a very pleasant experience compared to some of my past oil changes in other cars. I really like the canister oil filter. All I needed was the $6 cap wrench part #25404 type f from Autozone, my 14mm socket, and a Fram oil filter and 10 quarts of Mobile 1 Extended Performance oil from Wal-mart. I only needed 9.9 quarts of oil according to my dipstick. (Using Mobile 1 EP was my choice. Those reading this post can just go with conventional oil if desired.) I made some temporary ramps from some spare boards I had lying around. But now that I've done it, I figured out how to get to everything without ramps for next time. I would highly recommend anyone on the fence about doing their own oil change to take the plunge and do it yourself. I'm sure glad I did! I'm going to save lots of money over the years, that's for sure!

Yes, it is very easy if you have the right parts. I just did my first DIY ISF oil change last week...much easier than I had anticipated. It takes forever for all the oil to drain out though...get a beer or snickers ready.

How do you reset the "reminder-nanny?" I guess it dissapears after awhile? I have about 250 miles before my next oil change and it reminds me every time I start up the car now.

Don't remember exact steps but it's in the manual.

Hmmm...I'm trying to remember. I did it a few months ago. I think you put the mileage display on the dash to the total miles. Turn off the car. Press in the mileage display button and hold down. Press the engine start button with your foot OFF the brake so that it only lets the dash cycle through. The mileage display should read all zeros. When the zero go away, release the button. The oil change light should be gone.

Good for you IS -- Great feeling to get that involved, save some $$$$$, and most importantly know that it's done right.

Yup, agreed... very easy and straightforward. My only recommendation would be to use the Lexus filter instead of Fram going forward. Nice job!

^^ I second this. Don't cheap out on the filter, get the Lexus one.

Default Fram

Oops, I thought Fram was the better filter actually. I'll definitely go to the Toyota next time. Thanks guys!

There's a thread on oil filters that you guys need to read. Read all four pages. There are two Toyota filters that fit the F, the quality is the same (Both are Toyota Filters) but, one is much cheaper than the other. Guess, which one I use?
