Unhappy 2008 owners, battery trouble?

My 2008 ISF with 24,000 miles left me stranded. It would not start up however everything electrical would light up. Occasionally when trying you would hear the grinding screech of the starter motor.

After turning off all accessories and waiting ~15 min it finally started with a weak start. The battery it's self has a bright blue indicator tell me that battery is supposed to be fine. AAA told us that Lexus from 2007 and 2008 frequently have bad batteries and that they get a lot of calls for them.

Anyone else? Anyone have any luck getting a battery warrantied?

Thanks

It still should be under warranty if not, just buy a new one to save you the headache arguing with the dealership

sorry to hear about the situation. we had auto club jumpstart one of my dad's work vans here at home, and the driver noticed my F when he entered the driveway and asked if it needed jumping. i told him no, and he responded by saying he's had a few calls with lexus vehicles that needed some jumping. this was about four months ago, so i'm not sure what's wrong with these batteries that require either a jumpstart or a replacement. but it is something to ask the service advisor. but presuming it is under warranty, definitely go ahead and save yourself about 100 bucks and get it done. hopefully it's a resolvable issue under warranty. best of luck!

I haven't had issues where it wouldn't start up like that. But on really hot days I experience those same weak starts your talking about. However once when I pressed the button, the car attempted to start but didn't...I tried it again right after it got that same weak start. If I remember correctly if you search around there was a thread about this very issue.

Dealer installed a new battery today. the old Lexus battery was made by Panasonic, the new Lexus battery is from Interstate.

Haven't had any issues yet at 30K miles but good to know. If my batter ever does go out I'll probably use it as an excuse to buy a lighter one.

Same thing happened to me last month on my 08 OS350.
The dealer replaced it under warranty. My new battery is branded Lexus and says its from Torrance, CA.

Last December, with the cold weather down here in Miami, my 08 ISF had some trouble starting in the mornings, basically weak starts. I decided to stop by at my local Lexus dealer and have my battery checked. The diagnostic was one dead cell. My car has 40k miles, the battery was replaced under warranty.

Joe, I'm currious as to why you say this. The battery is branded "Lexus" is all black with Lexus stamped on it in big white letters in about 4 places. The service manager who drove over to my house on a Saturday to install it told me that it was made in US by Interstate OEM for Lexus. To me it looks like a Lexus OEM battery.

The original battery had a black top labeled Lexus and the bottom half was translucent white with "Panasonic" embossed on the side.

There are no Interstate batteries in Japan. All Japanese production cars come with Panasonic batteries from the factory. I've had nothing but excellent results with Panasonic batteries. I can't say the same for Interstate's flooded cell batteries. I usually ditch the OEM when it is finally out of life (although you can short a cell pretty easily in a high performance battery compared to a cheaper unit) and replace it with an Optima (now owned by Interstate - isn't THAT odd?). I've had zero issues with Optimas, but they're not light and not cheap.
