Motor Trend staffers and a spy photographer caught yet another group of high-performance vehicles testing at the Nurburgring. Lexus was reportedly testing a trio of IS Fs circling the ‘Ring, including an IS F convertible, a race-prepped IS F with NACA ducts, and another IS F chasing a right-hand-drive Toyota Supra.
The big news here is the black Lexus IS F convertible, and not because it’s a drop-top. While we wouldn’t mind testing a hardtop convertible version of the IS F, given the age of the current-generation IS lineup, this could be a test mule for the next-generation IS. Though Lexus has offered an IS 350C F Sport edition model, we wouldn’t expect an IS C F model this late in the car’s lifecycle.
A Motor Trend staffer who was at the ‘ring tells us the blue Lexus IS F (shown below) “had something nasty under the hood,” and it “sounded very mean.” From the photos, this IS F looks to be race-prepped; it’s got NACA ducts on its hood, hood pins, and a full roll cage.
The red Lexus IS F looked to be stock, but was chasing a gorgeous blue right-hand drive Toyota Supra around the track. Why? We’re not quite sure. That said, the Supra is still arguably the best sports car Toyota has ever produced, so if Lexus is using it as a benchmark for any IS F model, we’d more than welcome it.
Enjoy,
Joe Z

good call on that "test mule" yesterday, Joe. Let's hope that's what that is. That said, I really hope they redesign the hood. I'd like to see some more aggressive accents, like that of the GTR.

The more I look at this IS-FC the more I like it.
The thicker, brawnier front end with wide fenders and Beluga hood does a much better job in balancing out the massive extended rump of the C than the regular C does. The shape is overall more pleasing and even. Too bad they missed out on this with this generation.

New Lexus Model to Debut at Paris Motor Show?
Posted by krew on July 25th, 2012
In an interview with GoAuto, Lexus Australia marketing manager Peter Evans has revealed that a new mystery model will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in late September:
Given that a production LF-LC is directly tied to the success of the new GS, I have to think a compact SUV is more likely — if so, Lexus will finally be filling the biggest gap in the lineup.
Of course, questions immediately spring to mind: Will it be a mini-RX or a larger CT? Will it debut as a concept or a final production model?
Evans also mentions the possibility of higher-powered CT:
A brand-new mystery model, a rumored hot hatch CT, the auto show debut of the new LS, and a low-displacement GS hybrid, all at the Paris Auto Show? Looks like Lexus is taking Europe very seriously.
(Please note, the above image is the RX 450h, and not a teaser for the new mystery model.)

I was told by a Lexus sales rep that next year we should see the next generation IS at dealerships (it'd be unveiled later this year), then the F version would be out 2 years after... plenty of time to keep saving!

The other thing it means is there probably won't be another IS F until 2015. I don't see Lexus keeping two production lines open for IS models especially when the F sells in such small numbers. Hard to imagine seeing the 3IS on the sales floor next to the 2IS F in 2014...

I hope that means they're addressing those issues nearest and dearest to the hearts of the performance minded owners before they release the new car.

The IS-F will roll into 2013 this month... (or soo it seems)...
and so will the regular IS..
The IS sedan might just get a major update/refresh like the MY13 LS just got.....
This is ALL my speculation of course..
