Water Pump leaking

Good to know!
Spoke with Lexus of Canada, and they really didnt say much in terms of the pump, they noted I was not under any warranty and there were no recalls for the pump. (Both of which I knew) Asked if I had been tot he dealer to have it diagnosed and I said no, but you could look and physically see the dried pink coolant. Not sure if its worth the potential added cost to go through the dealer and by chance I get any goodwill vs. going to a private and paying less.

The disturbing thing about this is they know the part number changed because the first round of the design had a ridiculous failure rate. It should be a no questions asked, yes we will fix it for you kind of thing.

Not that I already had much faith in dealerships, but I called a local Lexus dealer for an estimate and they also recommended I also replace the drive belt.. and labor would only be an extra 0.5hr. (As opposed to 2.X) Seemed like a great deal until I thought about it more and realized that the belt had to be taken off to replace the water pump already! So apparently there is 0.5hrs labor to unpackage the new belt.. ha ha.

When it was time to repair the pump, I negotiated with the service manager. I cited the reports of failures on this forum and also the timing of the failure on my car being so close to the warranty expiration. They granted me a partial good-will repair by paying for half of the repair costs. Half is better than nothing. I suggest maybe to negotiate with your dealer since this is a frequent issue and well documented.

I feel like mine should be leaking too but I haven't seen any evidence. It's an 08 with 70k on it. I had the front bumper off about a month ago to change the headlights, and I did the spark plugs about a week after that and both times I inspected and couldn't find anything.
Why hasn't there been a recall on this with so many being affected?

HOWEVER, what I did notice just now was that the coolant in the pump is at the LOW line. Wouldn't this be a clear sign there is a leak somewhere?

Because the additives don't evaporate at nearly the rate the water does.

The part was not updated until MY 2010. Any 2008 or 2009 has the faulty pump on it.
