Talk me off the edge... considering GT-R

I think what's missing is not whether the GTR is a good car. It's a great car and i'd get a '12 for the garage to take out once in awhile. I would not, however, use it as a daily car. Honestly, I felt the R8 was better suited for daily use. He's looking for four seats though. I was in similar situation and went looking at GT, M3, M6, 911, GTR, etc. In the end I just got a throw away coupe convertible and another 458 Italia. In any event, if you are going to toss it in 6 months then a used GTR isn't a bad idea. I got rid of mine because it clearly wasn't a daily car for me. Maybe you will find it more to your liking. Personally, I find that on the daily car you have to live with and in, I go for the Luxury performance ones not the straight out hog wild performance ones. I got other things for that.

Don't get a GTR. It's ugly, huge like a boat, and unnecessarily overstyled. The reason that it comes with twin-turbo is because it is such a heavy pig. Regardless of the model, a Nissan is still a Nissan. I don't hate Nissan, in fact I love their cars (I also own a 350Z). Nissan make amazing performance cars, but GTR?.....just stupid, IMO. Don't even get me started about the maintenance on the damn thing.
Some could say that the performance is "amazing" for such an affordable price. In this case price is of concern, then get an Evo/Sti put another $15K in it and it still will be cheaper, reliable, and as fast if not faster than a GTR.
But if price is not of concern, put that money into a last gen. used 911 GT2, much classier, and it would be a much better cars. You can pull it up at valets, in front of casino, and people will be envy you.
So, hope this help.

Pulling up in a Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, BMW, Benz, Audi, Lexus will get the prestigious attention; possibly more over than a GTR. That’s not what I think, but we'll agree to disagree.
An EVO or STI, modded or not-not even in the same league as above.
People complain about the maintenance on the GTR, come on guys it’s not that bad considering the cars pedigree. The maintenance on a run of the mill 5 or 7 series costs just as much if not worse. Imagine maintenance on an M3, M5, M6, E55, C63, S4, GT2...and the list goes on...
It’s a Japanese import, you can get knock off parts on Ebay

The GTR is not like you think maintnance wise either. Lots of miss information still floating around the wed I see.
Why sink 15k in a evo/sti when all you will have is a evo/sti? Every teenager on the block has a loud fart can modded one and I dont think the OP wants that type of car.

I know I would be much happier if the ISF was easily a 11.5 n/a car. I had my fun drag racing and running countless 10 sec 1/4 times, but a 11.5 street car is still very fast for a daily driver. Having a GTR is awesome because its basically one of the fastest cars on the road. Im still surprised we have not seen the F go 10.99 with 150shot. If the GTR is ever in the low 50k range Ill be all over it.

If you don't keep cars for long, then I don't really see any risk. You should go for it! Whether you end up liking it or not, you'll probably get another car shortly anyways.
IMO I'd be very weary of purchasing a used GT-R; Based on what I've seen, they are mostly driven by enthusiasts who either track it or push it very hard. It's not like buying used 911s that get babied and driven slowly by rich old men. ha ha. So the maintenance and reliability is a concern.
In terms of the interior/amenities.. the GT-R doesn't feel cheap and it's well-built, but it's definitely on the sporty side, so I think it's a totally different feel. And I'm sure there will be a lot of minor features on the F that you'll miss, which can add up. But if the focus is on performance, then that will make up for any shortcomings in other areas.

This.
Your opinion about style but the 911 platform IMO is way played out. Porsche is just to scared to change it because of its old owners.

Ridiculous a vendor would post such a limited point of view.
Oh ya....almost forgot....get the GT-R Dave. For a guy with your driving skills, I'm sure you would have a ton of fun in it, DD or not.

I think it is mainly the price of the GTR, specifically if you own an F, then the GTR is no longer a "dream car" from your F, but an attainable car. A bargain price that allows one to either hang with or beat the exotics? The price is the first reason and the second reason is that it's from the land of the rising sun! My $0.02.

Well, there is a point under all that uh crud. It is a heavy gal. I don't think "a Nissan is still a Nissan" really applies though. After all, the LF-A is a decent car and it's a Lexus. Take solace in knowng that if he had the chance to trade his 280z for a GTR he'd do it in a heartbeat. Also, there's quite a bit of cachet in the GTR among people that actually knows cars. For the rest. . . well who cares about the rest.
