Default Well. Who wants to learn a lesson?

Learn from me please... Don't go play golf 50 miles away when using your only 3 month old Smart Access Key Card as your only way to start your car.

YEAHHHHH.... You end up calling your wive to drive out 50 miles to bring you the spare key.

Cliffs Notes: New key card died, stranded 50 miles away from home.

If you're going anywhere far away, bring an extra key. (FYI I don't have the key that goes in to the card.) I am going to email Sewell to see what their opinion is on this. 3 months seems like a very short period of time for a key to last. (I don't leave it in the car or even within 30 feet of it.)

question. What's the point of the key card? I saw this in your video after you finished modding. Is it just to have a "slimmer" car key that is not as bulgy?

Yeah that's the idea. I love it. I just leave it in my wallet. All i have to do is grab my wallet and go. I needed to get an extra key anyway because mine only came with one key when I bought it used. So it was only an extra $80 and my dealer programmed it for free.

Not to mention, it's pretty cool. I went pulled in to the valet area at the Four Season where ferraris, lambos and bentleys are parked out front all of the time. When I handed the key to the valet, he looked at it and said "woah. I've never seen one of these." You know you have something cool when you amaze the valet. For some reason now, they seem to park the car up front. Maybe it's because they don't have a key hook for the card so they just leave it in the car. Don't know. Don't care.

Any concerns with de-magnitizing any of your other cards (i.e. debit/credit/Costco/etc.)?? Or your actual key card for that matter?

Nope. My cards work fine. Didn't read anything in the instructions that came with it about having it next to cards doing anything to the key or the cards. So, nope.

I hope this doesn't mean the keycards are unreliable in general. Having to bring a backup key would defeat the purpose of the keycard since you can't lock the car with another key inside, you'd have to carry both.

I know right. I guess I mean like, if you went out of town, keep it in your bag in the hotel, if you go to a golf course, keep it in your golf bag. You're exactly right though. I sent Sewell a message via their contact form. I hope I'm the only one that has had that problem and maybe I got a bad one?

Hm.. I have to carry my other keys anyways, so having the key fob doesn't bother me. Also seems like a huge issue that if you lose your wallet, now they have your address AND your car keys. No thanks.

I don't think many criminals are smart enough to realize what it is. But also, they can have it if they steal. Just don't return it or leave it recognizable when the police find it. I'll take the insurance money. LOL

What year is your IS F? The 2008 card is different and my point is that I am sure the card has been sitting at the Dealership for some time so the original battery is several years old already. I bought the key to go with it. That way you are good to go. Just replace the battery in it.

Did you try holding up the Smart Card right next to the push-start button? That can sometimes give enough juice to start the car, atleast for the regular keyfobs.
