Which Filter

Which Filter
So I need a new intake filter now so it's time to upgrade. I have read that both the Tom's and the Amsoil filters have gains. Is one really any better than the other cause if not the Amsoil filter is a lot cheaper from what I have found.

Yeah I am probably going to pick up a JoeZ Intake to go along with it as well. Yeah the Tom's filter is no longer on the l-tuned site and only the aFe one. The Amsoil is the cheapest of the 3 filters. The fact the Tom's is almost the same price as the JoeZ pipe seems pretty crazy.

Joe and I think alike. My risk management side says the OEM filter is the least likely to result in anything bad ever happening. Anyone claiming equal filtration and better flow is blowing smoke up your leg. It's pretty rare that a 1 - 2 hp difference means anything to me - I figure just getting a launch right means a lot more than a couple of hp, so I'll just keep buying the OEM pieces from online sources...especially for a part you never see except to change it.

Right, but in risk management we always ask the question, what is the value of the thing you are protecting?
I once had a network engineer tell me he couldn't believe the security team wanted to spend $7M to protect $600k worth of computers. Unfortunately, this short sighted individual didn't recognize we were protecting $300B in assets under management for a mere $7M.
So, if your AFE fails to filter and scores a cylinder wall, what will it cost to repair? Will saving a few hundred dollars over a couple of years make up the difference?

(poor fitment on non-oem piece)
The OEM Filter fit nice & tight (perfectly) around the boxes edges.. Making it impossible for dirt/rocks/sand to get past the filter frame..
That was my main reason for it..
If Blitz made a drop in filter for the F, I would have gone for that to try out..
The material and fitment is right at or better than oem standards. (From my IS350 experience)
For the record, I had no other time or desire to try out another drop in filter brand.

Boy, ain't these forums great? Everyone has their own rational reason for using parts they believe are the best for their application. Me, I used a JoeZ intake with a K&N oiled filter. It worked out great for me until I saw the Takeda. In my mind the design just made sense, and I was one of the first adopters. It employs an AFE washable dry filter. I sold the K&N and the JoeZ and am happy with my Takeda. It works for me
