I am a little out of step with others on matte black. When I first saw one I thought it looked great, but now that I have seen a few on the road I'm over it. I prefer plain 'ol shiny paint. I have never seen matte white or silver in person - maybe I would like those better than black.

Matte white IS-F...

Are people still trying to pull-off the Matte Black thing?

Seems pretty "2006" to me...

Sorry, just don't like it at all. I did see a CTS-V with a $13,000 flat black paint and that looked a whole lot better. Not sure why it looked far better on that car but...

Some of the new wraps are pretty nice (and reversible). I can see doing this if its only going to run a couple grand, is temporary and helps protect the paint underneath. Run it for like a year then strip it off.

Imagine the OEMs deciding to build a single white colored model, then have the dealer install a wrap for the color the customer wants as part of the purchase price with the ability to change colors at any time for a not completely unreasonable cost.

It would sure beat the crap out of all the complaints over easily chipped paint.

That's a good idea, but while vinyl wrap offers great chip protection, it's also very high maintenance, far more so than paint I'd argue. As such, "normal" consumers would probably tear it, stain it, or scratch it up in no time, and OEMs will have to deal with constant complaints. Not worth it if I was a manufacturer.

These guys already do that on a micro-level. Even though they are small, this is one innovation they've implemented. The BMW GINA concept uses a skeleton with an easily replaceable cloth skin which is also pretty awesome. Looking at the growth of the "Vinyl revolution" amongst the major manufacturers (Meguiars, M3, Hexis, Oracal, Tintek) at SEMA last year, it seems like this is going to stick around. They are getting better and better also.

I dont real care for the matte finishes. I dont really hate them or like them. The matte white, you can barely tell it apart from oem starfire pearl in the sun from afar. The matte black is fine too, at least it wont get swirls as easy as oem obsidian.
