It's a simple device that multiplies your throttle input. The multiplication factor depends on the mode you use it in.
I've had one for a few months and it works great but I rarely use it. If you drive aggressively on a day to day basis (I don't), then it's a nice way to get some extra throttle response without having to go pedal to the metal. In some modes you basically get wide open throttle without going anywhere near to the annoying button under your gas pedal.
If you're thinking about using it on the track, it won't be a good idea because it prevents you from being smooth on the throttle.

I have the TOMS, it works great. I think it is the reason I beat an E92 M3 last month. Most of the time it is in OFF mode, but when using SP3 (most responsive mode) on highways it is fun to drive. Although driving in Sp3 around local roads is annoying, the car jerks a lot.

Good question lukeisf. I was going to post the same type of question. I read some other thread saying members were having tranny issues due to using it while in reverse? There was some additional reverse thing you needed to buy that shuts it off when you put the car in reverse. Obviously the easy method would be don't turn it on until your on your way wherever you are going. I just wanted to see now that it has been some time if anyone is having tranny issues or not. I assume not since there aren't a bunch of threads about it. I am def looking to get one of these as well

^^^ None-issue, IMO. The worry is that you'll forget that you have the device set to its highest setting when you're backing out of your parking spot and unintentionally floor it.
There are some safety cut-offs that you can purchase, but I've never heard about anyone actually needing it. I sure haven't.

I thought I read that someone badly damaged their transmission because they would leave this on in reverse... Its why I never messed with it. (They didnt have the reverse safety option). Cant trust everything you read on the internet tho.

Me personally if I got one, I may even forget about having it installed period and would only remember to even turn it on if I had that feeling where I wanted to get a nice pull in lol. Below thread post 7 is where someone mentions messing up/blowing up ur tranny. I can understand not putting it in reverse due to increased throttle sensitiviy, but blowing up/damaging a tranny just cuz it's in reverse just doesn't sound right to me.
