Peak hp numbers don't tell the whole story. I'll take area under the curve over big peak numbers any day.

Aisin's automatics aren't known for being very stout or tolerating a lot more torque than they're rated to hold. It would not surprise me at all if the OEM gearbox doesn't like more torque than stock for very long. They're definitely not a Getrag 233.

So whats the best move if your trans starts to slip with increased power? Do you have to suck it up and buy a new one. Is the Getrag 233 an upgrade? I have had no signs of transmission slipping at all, but very curious incase something happens?

The Getrag 233 is also known as the Toyota V-160 or V-161. It came in the Supra. It's not an option for the 2IS. It's the only Toyota gearbox capable of handling more than twice the rated torque without immediate failure.

There may or may not be easy fixes. Supra's automatics were known for sprague clutch failures at elevated power levels. If the AA80 is a similar design, there may not be an economically viable fix.

i agree that they can't take much more than stock but aisin auto's seem to be built very tough and last quite a while. Cherokee's use them and I have seen those with over 400k and all the other Lexus/Toyota vehicles that use them, seem to work great with higher miles, but yes it is no v160.

I would imagine that the clutches and bands could be replaced instead of replacing the whole tranny. You might consider buying a used eBay transmission to have on hand as a spare.

The first thing I would do is get a big, fat, aftermarket trans fluid cooler, stock or not, if I had an IS-F and raced it.

I would assume. I'm not familiar with the IS-F factory cooler at all, but as far as the IS300/GS300 and auto Supra guys too I'm sure, a tranny cooler is the first thing they do if they race their car and/or run boost.

Its your car but I would not send them parts to your car. I regret porting my manifold. Although there are some low end gains it acutaly hurts top end a bit and if you add nitrous there are serious tq losses from a stock manifold...

The skinny lines are after the manifold "upgrade".... if i would have left it stock with nitrous on i would be making 500+ ft lbs ... but im at 450 because of porting. Its not worth the fortune it cost at all. I am the only person who has performed real and honest dyno testing of this manifold. It will cost you over 2k all said and done, not worth it at all.

With nitrous

Well I appreciate you taking the time to post that. Seems like it isn't worth the cost and time.
