Default Question: Interior Carbon Fiber Trim

One of the ISF's I'm considering purchasing felt like it had exposed carbon fiber around the shifter, were as all others were smooth to the touch like they had acrylic on top of it or were clear coated.

Does anyone know if this carbon fiber trim is supposed to be under a clear acrylic piece or clear coated?

I need to know what it's going to cost me to put this back to new.

The carbon fiber piece is in good condition, only you can feel the cf weave.

It was probably a CF weave DINOC vinyl wrap, all the bmw kids love that stuff.

It looked exactly like the stock shifter plate, only it had an exposed feel to it. The door switches on the other hand were smooth to the touch.

Any ideas as to what would have happened here?

I've been looking for a "replacement" but I haven't found anything in stock form.

They make 3m dinoc vinyl wrap in matte Silver too...

A picture of the area would help solve your questions.

Unfortunately, the car is over 3 hours away so getting a picture is rather difficult.

I'm dumbfounded as to why someone would cover the stock plate with something that looks exactly the same.

Hiding damage?

Is it considered an upgrade?

Interestingly enough, the window switches appear to have the stock look and feel to them.

Holy cow! Local dealer thinks it's about $1500 for a replacement. I guess I need to find out whether it's the original piece just wrapped or an entirely different piece.

I think you're overthinking it a little.

Never could have guessed. Good luck with your purchase though. The ISF is pretty awesome.

Is this the piece in question?

Yes. That's it.

The same material pieces are on the window switches, but the window switch trim was smooth to the touch on this car.

The shifter plate you have pictured was not smooth, rather you could feel the weave. It's the only ISF I've seen with this texture.

58821-53170-A0 $1,075.22 is MSRP. I've seen it for just over $750 new from online retailers.

I purchased my car with a wrap but it's has a raised feeling to it and isn't glossy. Looks very clean but the only part that wasn't wrapped was the cover piece that closes and hides the cup holder. The previous owner removed it because it wouldn't close properly with the wrap on it. I'll see if I can get a picture and post it up.

That's really odd. If you buy the car, just take it in to lexus and have them replace it under warranty.

Please do! That'd be great.

I called a local dealer about it and they advised to take it in so they could look at it.

I'm just worried they won't warranty it if its indeed an aftermarket piece, obviously.
