Default Need some advice.

Ok guys, I have a dilemma. I am in the military and am looking at moving to Germany in the next 3-6 months. The problem is that my ISF will not be under warranty any longer once my car gets over there. I am concerned about this since I did pay a lot of money for this nice car. My question to you guys is...should I keep the ISF and have it shipped over there or...trade it in/sell it and get something very cheap for the time being and then buy a M3 once I get over there?

I have even thought about trading it in here for an M3. I mean BMW should warranty their own product in the motherland right? Well needless to say I am going to make a trip to the local BMW dealer and ask some questions.

I really don't want to get rid of my car. I love it and hoped to keep it for a long time. However this no warranty stuff really is leaving a terrible taste in my mouth

My car: 2008 Mercury metallic 31K miles

You might be better off taking it over there if you can, you'll make a fair bit of cash if you sell it there.
You'll get more than what you paid for it...

Really? What makes you say that? I figured it would be the opposite. Since the dealerships will not want to bother with warranty work. even so the cost of repair me be higher depending on what is wrong and the difficulty of obtaining parts.

Take it overseas because the military pays for it (right?). I'm a former veteran and work in the Middle East in Saudi Arabia as a contractor and might be going to Afgan next year. So I'm in the same situation as you and might sell my 2008 Lexus ISF before I take a bigger hit.

In your case your going to Europe where our ISF sells for more than $100,000, so I say take it to Europe because your car is really rare there. If you want to sell it, sell it in Europe used for the same price or more that you bought it. You can get more plus the buying will also get a deal with a lower cost car!

You can take it to a Toyota Dealership for repairs!

'08 models go for €40k+. You can do the exchange rate, but I'm pretty sure you might be able to buy a new ISF in USA for that.

Used 08 sell for €30k+ in Europe but the EU models are fully loaded, the only options we have here are the sunroof and the ACC-PCS. Your sat-nav system will not work in Europe, the whole system needs to be changed. Import cars are expensive to register as well.
I would suggest to sell the car in the US. You can get a E9x M3 in Gemany from €30k if that is the car you are looking for.
The websites to look at are mobile.de and autoscout24.com

If the military will ship your car to Germany for free, then it's a no brainer, then you can drive it while you're there or sell it for exorbitant amounts of money and buy something else.

Just make sure to research if you'll need to pay import tax in Germany. That could easily be around 20% of the car's value, it's different for each country in the EU.

The military does ship my car for free and all my house hold goods too. I bought this ISF used last year and put about 9k miles on it since. I also have the certified pre owned warranty which extends the warranty for 3 more years and 100k miles. That was the reason I pulled the trigger on this car in the first place because it gave me piece of mind knowing that for at least the next three years or 100k miles I would be covered for any major defect. I could bring it there and drive it on the autobahn no problem. In fact I am looking forward to it. I guess I could sell it over there and get an M3 fresh off the line US Spec so I can bring it home. Or maybe a C63 AMG.

Thanks for the replies.
