Not really. DOT 3 works just fine too. It's the bleeding that makes all the difference.

+1 I've definately felt a slight difference running dot 5 in the past under an hour of hard driving. It does hold a higher boiling point than dot 3 and does not absorb moisture like dot 3 does. The dot 5 I ran was on a vehicle with abs removed, however dot 5 is not recommended for cars with abs. I still have the stock fluid in my F and will be flushing it soon due to age. Purple dot 5 in my friends Porsche was noticeably different on the track last year. I will for sure be visiting the new 2.43 mile road course being built here in the NW!

I ran the first couple days with dot 3 and was noticing brake fade after 30 to 45 minutes. I ran dot 5 and never experienced fade in an hour long session. Either that or I went over the heat range of the brake pads I was running at the time which I guess is possible. A the time I had hawk hp plus on the front.

Does anyone know the bleed sequence on the F? I just changed my rotors and pads this weekend, oem rotors and stop tech pads, but I did not bleed the brakes and I'm at 70k. The fluid looks great and was not low, but if it improves petal feel even better I want to do it asap.

I like to start from as far away from the master cylinder as possible (right rear) make my way around to the left rear, then right front and left front being the closest.

I run Brembo LCF. It's DOT 4 rated and compatible with DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 fluids. DOT 4 just means it won't attack natural rubber seals (used on the old Girling brakes). I'd bet a whole lot of money your problem was pads and not fluid. If you want to run a fluid with stellar performance, run Castrol SRF. Stupid expensive, but has a very high wet boiling point, so you don't need to be as concerned about changing it often. It has been the world racing standard fluid for a very long time.

Fluid boiling won't cause fade, it causes complete failure - pedal to the floor, pucker marks in the seat, and if you're lucky you get to pull off gracefully. Pad fade means you press a lot harder and if you pump quickly, you can slow the car (at least I was able to with the F when I cooked my pads before I learned to turn off the stability controls).

Over the years I've used the original DOT 5 silicone fluid (spongy no matter what, but will never damage paint or absorb water), DOT 3 and DOT 4. On the track, there is no difference in feel as long as you've done a good job of bleeding. LCF is specifically designed for low compressibility, but honestly, it's difficult to say it makes a noticeable difference (but at 600F dry boiling, it really doesn't boil even at CMP with four hard braking zones every lap.)
