Inner AND Outer tire wear.. Thoughts?
I have studied the tire wear threads in this forum, and am hoping someone can provide insight as to why my outside tread has worn as quickly as the typical inside wear.
These pss's have about 12k miles, 9k from previous owner, 3k from myself. Car has never been tracked.
When I purchased the car a few months ago the outer wear was not as severe.
I have never cornered hard enough to make the front tires squeal or lose traction.
Tire pressure stays set at 36psi.
When backing out of tight parking spaces requiring the steering wheel turned to 80-85% full lock, I always hear a tire scrubbing the ground as if it's being dragged.
Reversing out with wheel turned left causes right tire to drag and vice versa. Could this be the cause for the outer wear? And if so is this dragging normal?
I will have an alignment when I replace these tires, however the inner wear indicates toe out, and leaves my clueless then as to how the outside has worn so much.
I invite your thoughts and explanations. Cheers

Stock tire size and last aligned within stock range at date of tire install. Presumably still toed out a bit, and seemingly evidenced by the typical ISF inner wear.
I was expecting the inner wear due to toe out, but not equal outside wear also.
I am confused how inner + outer wear do not equal middle wear,
and concerned if the tire dragging in reverse is normal.

The inside edge wear looks like the usual 2IS toe problems. The outside edge looks like driving around corners. I'd check alignment and experiment with tire pressure. Add 2 psi and see if it improves. Are you sure the previous owner didn't run them at a lower pressure?

It seems that a great deal of the traction is generated by a very small portion of the tread.
I'm no engineer but this seems terribly inefficient, 2" of performance across 8" of tire

I had the same symptoms on my IS 250. Insides worn at an 'angle' like a chamferred edge. Outsides worn more evenly across the outer tread blocks but still faster than the centers. And scrubbing when turning at full lock. Alignment showed 0.34 deg/4.25mm total toe in. Spec on an IS 250 RWD is -1mm toe out to 3mm toe in so I had too much toe in. I think in general, toe in causes outside edge wear. And I don't really know, but maybe the suspension toes out when you brake or something, possibly causing the inside edge wear.
Had the toe set to zero and I'll see how the tires wear. The scrubbing issue at full lock is already gone though.
Your tires are pretty worn in the centers too. They look almost level with the wear bars in the center grooves. Or maybe it's just not a good pic. Still, I would be surprised if you had any traction in the wet.
It would be nice if you had some alignment specs to know your toe settings because I believe either toe out or toe in could still be within specs.

It's a bad photo/dirty tires. Actually the middle tread is 2x depth of wear bars.

This setting will help with even tires wearing correct?

Correct. I've been working to find the happy medium for street driving. Toe out helps at the track but seems to be death for street duty. I believe there is considerable toe out under braking too.
