Default Replacing Levinson front Sub

Wow.......my speaker on top of the dash just blew out and is making a terrible cracking noise. To my surprise the Lexus Dealers want over $300.00 for that little speaker and another $145.00 to put it in!! Any ideas on where I might find a used one????

Have a look at Sewell online parts. The partno. you're looking for is 86160D and for ClubLexus Members the current price is $175.86 without shipping.

it's not a sub, it's a 2.5" mid range center speaker. It's supposed to smooth the transition between the left and right, but who knows how well it works. I suggest just have it removed by a stereo shop and forget about it.

That's an option, but be careful because I have my third IS and they all have a tendency to squeek when the sun shines on the dashboard. The origin is exactly where this center speaker is mounted. The dealer told me it has to do with the different wiring looms touching eachother but he never really managed to deal with the issue though...

Thank you for all of your responses. As with anything,,,,the more you look into something...the more options you receive.I've already learned a lot from this thread. I wanted to upgrade the speaker when I replaced it however, after speaking to a local stereo shop I was told that the speaker was quite shallow and the optional replacements were a lot deeper and wouldn't fit. If anyone has had some experience with this and knows what is under the speaker and approximately how far down you can go with another option I would be curious to know. JL Audio seems to be the recommended replacement although I don't have a specific model number.

Thanks again and I hope we can learn more from this thread.

If you turn off the surround sound, would that disable the center speaker?

No I tried that too and it didn't stop it from rattling. So I went back to the stereo shop and again asked for a replacement option and they had none because of the ohm difference and unusual size. So I popped open the grill on top using a driver license so it wouldn't scratch the plastic and removed the two bolts on each side with a socket. After unplugging it and removing it.....no problems at all. I can barely barely tell a difference but no one else would be able to. The speaker itself had come apart in the voice coil area and that piece was rattling considerably. I will eventually find a new one used and replace it. For now it is fine!! I hope this helps someone in the future.

Is the vehicle out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty?

Thanks for the update Vintage.

I'm struggling myself with the entire stereo installation deactivating itself from time to time. Fortunately the car is still under warranty and I finally convinced the dealer to replace the entire unit (which is very expensive)...

My entire stereo unit has been replaced under warranty and works fine now.
The squeeking noise from the center speaker on top of the dashboard now drives me crazy. Can anyone tell me how to take off the cover of the speaker without breaking any clips?

Uh...i don't know about you guys, but i think the center channel speaker does WONDERS. It really balances the sound. I used to have an acura TL, which the center channel only worked with you had a DVD-A audio disc in it, or else, nothing....
