Doesn't the V1 require firmware or software updates of some kind that cost more money? Or am I confusing that with something else? Everyone who has had the V1 has loved it but I remember lots of complaints about paying more money although I don't remember what that was about. Can anyone comment? (This was many, many years ago and within the 350z crowd who like to complain).

Anyhow, I've tried a few and the Escort Passport 8500 earned my money years back. My ex took it with her though so I'm on the hunt again with the recent F purchase.

Amazon customer ratings:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_tref_...rank_authority

The Escort Passport has 3 units in the top 12 (with some cabling taking up some spots). The 8500 used for <$200 is a fantastic bargain IMO.

The Beltronics RX65 I've also had and that was awesome too.

I have the Beltronics RX65 and it is very good. I have been looking to get an upgraded detector and it looks like the Redline is going to be the one. It has the unsurpassed range and it also has Traffic Sensor Rejection. Those traffic sensors false my RX 65 but this one has software to eliminate those false alerts.

In the US there are only 3 frequency's of Ka Radar guns, 33.8, 34.7, and 35.5. So you only turn on segments 2, 5, and 8 on the stir+, and because it's not wasting time scanning unused frequency's it is more "sensitive" and quicker to alert to these frequency's. This has nothing to do with K-band radar btw, only Ka. What's nice about the stir+ (and the 9500ix) is that the GPS feature allows you to "lock out" false K-band signals (from radar type door openers used in most large retail stores...etc) so that you're not always getting falses..... This is definitely a can't live without feature in the big cities, but less of an issue if you are in a rural area....
As someone stated above, Laser jammers are necessary to save you from laser guns, and if you want the system that is unquestionably "the best" out there verified by "GUYS OF LIDAR" (a group of independet speed countermeasure enthusiasts) then Laser Interceptor is the brand you want/need. There is a huge difference in the effectiveness of the different brands out there.... If you good them and do a little research on the Radardetector.net forum, you will see I'm not wrong on either of these recommendations... If the OP (or anybody else) wants to know more about my setup, or has any questions about this stuff (I'm no expert, but spent COUNTLESS HOURS, researching this stuff before buying my setup) I'd be happy to help!!! (this is something that I probably know a little more about than the average person on here) and would like to be helpfull as I have gotten much appreciated help on this forum about more "mechanicaly related" topics on my F!
My setup has saved me so many times from radar (and I've also had 3 laser saves) it has deffinitely paid for itself in the first year of my F ownership and I'm so far (knock on wood) ticket free!!! (and I drive F'N FAST ALL THE TIME!!)
here's a link to my intall....

Can you post the install pics on here? They weren't coming up for me as a guest on the other forum. How much did you Laser Interceptor package run you?

I too have a V1, and it has saved me many times, but the GPS features of the 9500's have me considering switching over. To me the thing I like most about the V1 is the arrows identifing the direction of the signal, it is very helpful, though with the V1 you get many false alarms.

However I recently saw a app that is coming out for smart phones that will work with the 9500 to identify laser speed traps using the gps feature. From what i understand when another driver with a 9500 gets hit with a laser, a signal will be sent through the GPS feature to the satelite and back to your smart phone if you have the app. It is electronics geeks trying to stay one foot ahead of the poli.

But for now I use my V1 daily.

Valentine 1 hands down!!! I have had both an escort 9500ix and Valentine 1 and not only is the Valentine 1 more sensitive but the arrows really do help when you encounter a CHP.

I'll try to post the pics tomorrow and find the link for the laser interceptors. I paid more when I bought my setup than what you can buy them for now. A buddy from work just bought my exact setup except a dual LI instead of my quad setup, and he got a great deal!!

ERDoc74 - Setup looks good. I'm glad you put the rear LI's by the plate. I have to laugh sometimes on that board where they say you have to mount the rears on the tail lights. It looks ridiculous.

I only run front Blinder X-treme M27's on the front bottom grill by the front plate. I didn't have the heart to cut into the top grill. My hope is that a cop will hit the plate first giving me a couple of seconds to slow down. For the rear I'm hoping the FOP helps...

Oh... and here's the Laser Interceptor USA website...
If you go to the Buy Online now tab they also have the stir-plus RD, 9500ix, redline and Valentine 1 RD's alone or in bundles with the LI's as well....
