Demo car?
Hey guys. How worried would you be about a car that's been used as a demo for about 100 miles. Particularly running the car through the gears without breaking in the engine or letting it warm up completely.
Thanks

Only 100 miles shouldnt be bad, especially considering how much of a deal you can get compared to new. I assume you get practically the full warranty too.
However, when I was a kid we used to rip demos apart, thanks to my friend's dad.. like worst beating ever. mudding in a Navigator with 20 miles so you couldnt even see what color paint it was, neutral dropping everything, huge burnouts, rallying brand new WRXs thru horse trails. I vowed to never buy a demo, but for a good deal I prob would change my mind.
However, for the F, I'd guess some burn outs, drifts, and lots of accelerator would be the worst thing done, besides not following the break-in period. Plus the warranty, I'd think youre safe. How much off sticker price?

I wouldn't touch it. Demo cars are used exactly as they are described. For demos. In a V8 400+hp car, what do you think they demo? The stereo and backup camera? lol. And 100 miles of "demo"? Ouch.

Yeah our managers use their demos for daily use and they seem to take care of them. But.... it is an isf so im sure they had fun with it. It shouldnt be affected though. And new cars off the lot have around a hundred miles because they were traded from another dealership close by or they are used a lot on test drives. One of our new GS' has 100 miles just from test drives

Yeah it was actually 9800 miles and did belong to a local Lexus rep. Being a demo car, it was sold to me as "new" and I am considered the original owner with the warranty starting the day of my purchase so I figured ehhh why not. I'm sure whoever drove this car before me had a lighter foot than mine.

It would have to be the roughest 100-miles known to man. I don't think the OP has anything to worry about as Cayman's experience demonstrates. At the 2008 SEMA show, Lexus gave IS-F dyno demonstrations for more than 13 straight hours! The car didn't miss a beat. These cars are tough and were tracked relentlessly during development. I doubt anybody could really hurt these cars in 100-miles unless they were trying to intentionally do so. Even then, they would need a bit of luck, IMO.

I would think a lot of those miles are potential buyers out for a spin. At my dealership, they try to keep test drives to a minimum by weeding out those pretending to be interested. Plus they ride along to keep the test driver from really ripping it. Sure they're going to floor it a couple of times. But joy riding like burnouts, donuts, etc are not allowed when the salesman is in there. So I think you'd be fine. It's all under warranty.
