. What are the benifits of installing free flow cats, does it make it more driver friendly in terms of interior noise?
It definitely decreases some of the "rasp" of the Joe Z - PPE Header" combo I have... Cuts down volume down some, and eliminates the "gas" smell of the exhaust.
but does decrease HP by about 10 from what I've read...
I was planning on doing the headers at the same time, but figured I will wait a little while and save some money. Installation will likely cost a few bucks on the headers, and I am also adamant about welding in free flow cats like you did...want to be at least a little environmentally conscious and not delete all cats.
If you plan on doing headers, full exhaust and tracking the car in any manner I would not recommend the addition of high flow cats. I've seen a few folks here with high flows that burned out.
With that said the car still burns pretty clean and the exhaust smell is only really noticeable in the garage or sitting at a stop with a backdraft and the windows are down. The main reason I did the high flow cats before was to reduce the drone and loudness of the header/PTS JoeZ exhaust combo, which worked but now have the solution solved with the Borla exhaust which keeps the noise down, no worries of cat failure and no potential for power loss.
^^^^James, I'm really not a Green person, but my only reason for putting hi-flow cats on my system was purely environmental. IMHO, it makes no sense to add to the Pollution problem if I don't need to. If I was tracking the car, I would have made them removable.

Yeah I understand and you have a valid concern. Personally I am actually green in nature except for this car of mine, but I have the Prius as my daily which should "offset" some. .
If money was of no concern though I too would go the route of setting the exhaust up with removable cats utilizing vbands, but with that you end up lowering the resale of the exhaust and end up spending nearly another grand on the conversion. (2) cats, (2) test pipes, several vbands and all the labor involved.
Those are good points...and I don't drive very much anyway. If/when I decide to pull the trigger on the Sikky headers, we'll see if I want to spend the extra grand for parts and labor to put in the high flow cats.
What is the brand, and size if applicable that you guys used as the O2 sensor removal. What are the benifits of installing free flow cats, does it make it more driver friendly in terms of interior noise?
Mine doesn't have a brand but says KD3924 and 22mm
Not that far. I could meet up with you somewhere between N. VA and Lancaster if you want. I'd also like to meet up and hear DHRP's ISS exhaust to compare. If you guys want to plan something i'd be interested.
