Time attack ideas (5k budget)
Getting some input on doing a time attack project for my IS-F when I get back from Japan, and I would like to start tracking on the weekends yet remain a DD. Car will be paid off, and is completely OEM. 2008 with 35k miles. Any Ideas?
1. Suspension, coils, tower braces, under braces, sway bars etc.
2. Lighter racing seats and harness
3. Exhaust
4. Lighter wheels (Advan RG-Ds?)
5. Upgraded rotors, pads
Maybe some other weight shaving ideas.....gutting the rear seats, trunk etc.

If you want the F to remain a DD I'd suggest keeping your seats instead of gutting, those are the most comfortable seats, both rear and front. As the seasoned veteran lobuxracer would suggest, track the car as is first and get a feel for it before modding. Any stock ISF as it sits is ready for the track with the correct tire setup, keeping the stock wheels. If you do a search here on the ISF specific forums, you will see the different tire setups people use. The most typical way people up-size tires is 245's in front and 285's in the back on the stock wheels.

You listed 5 specific areas of the car. Each of these items have been discussed over and over again. It's kinda tiresome when you see a thread each week asking the same thing that was asked 2 weeks before that.
Not trying to be rude but you can go to the top of this page and click on search. If you have any questions from there or comparisons then ask away, but inform yourself first before you get angry with our quietness

Carbotech track pads and a combination of r compounds. Headers and exhaust are the easiest ways to get hp out of an f but the tires and pads will take you further doing time attack. Stock rims accommodate Toyo proxy 888 and michilen sport cup which both are r comps. For after market wheels run enkei or Volk 18s with 285s all the way around. Sikkys rear sway bar would be a great upgrade as well

First off, this is the wrong car for 'time attack" ... you'll plateau really quick without having to really get into the car which will make it the a bad DD ..
Start with a different platform, gut that, keep the F to go to work or DD ...

My methodology has always been turn, stop, run. Make sure your car can handle, then make sure it can stop, then open it up with some power. You can have a fast car without a lot of power as long as it handles well (i.e. Miata). Based on that, look into a good set of tires first. There's no point in tossing mods at a car that can't take advantage of what it already has.

As stated these cars are ready for the track outta the factory. All these would need are better tires and race pads for the track....thats it
