Fram oil filter, ok?

This is an endless argument that has been fought on every car forum for years. The issue with Fram typically has been with the canister filters as mentioned. At one point it was the metal from cutting the threads being in the filter, another issue was the pressure relief, ect. On top of that Fram (Allied Signal) manufactures filters for many other brands (STP, Quaker State, Pensoil, ect)
Some guys loved the Purolator Pure One filter then Purolator got bashed.
The element that our cars use really doesn't have anything besides the filter media so there is not much there to screw up so the Fram should be fine. One the other hand if you don't want to deal with this never ending battle just use OEM filter.
I always use the OEM filter. I buy them in bulk.

I remember buying the Purolator. It doesn't fit the F. Fits a Tundra all day long.

I'm a Fram user. The last OEM filter was used at the 5000 free service. I changed to Fram at 10000. I'm now at 56000 using 10 to 15K oil change intervals. I've had the oil analyzed and it was fine. My dad uses Fram and has rolled over 130K on his GS400. I think you'll be OK.

Wow, opinions all across the board. My local Lexus dealership is charging about $18 for filter and oil plug gasket. Seems pricey? Getting my oil changed at a friends shop, trying to save $.

There is a choice in Toyota (lexus) filters. One is exclusively for the F and costs a lot, and another that fits just fine, but fits a wider range of vehicles, Toyota Tundra and Lexus SUVs and costs not so much. Read the whole thread. It tells you everything you need to know about the Toyota filters so you can make your own decision. BTW, I have used the dedicated filter for the F, and now use the one for the Tundra. IMHO, they are both the same. And, my Lexus parts guy, now supplies the Tundra filter for the F oil changes at the dealership.

^^^^Physically they measure exactly the same and both fit the F like a glove. Both are sold by Toyota and Lexus. And, I don't see Lexus selling a sub-standard filter for it's high priced SUV. The only difference between the two is that the Tundra filter contains a small O-Ring and a drain for oil filter housings that are mounted vertically. The Fs filter housing is mounted horizontally so those two pieces are not needed. It is my opinion the F filter costs more simply because the sales volume is so much less. In any case, I have been using the Tundra filter for close to three years now
