Well Lexus ditched AFS on the new lights. Must not have been that much of a safety factor lol.
Not at all true. They still self level. They just don't move side to side anymore. Disabling AFS means losing the self leveling feature which really is a safety enhancement for both the driver and any oncoming traffic. See diagram below from the 2011 New Car Features manual.
You don't lose self leveling if you switch to the new lights. Anyone who has them can confirm this including my friend who put them on his IS 250. All that is lost is side to side movement in the old lights.
The lights still self level, you just have a light on the dash that people cover up with black tape. Or a couple people have actually removed the cluster and taken out that LED for the AFS light.
So the lighting ECU works despite the flashing error on the dash? I thought you had to change the ECU to make it work.
Correct....
The Auto-Leveling Up/Down feature will continue to work since it shares the same ecu..
Losing the AFS feature was not a big deal for me.. The Flashing AFS light is an indicator that there is a system issue.
The issue is that the AFS swivel motors are missing..
Pulling the "AFS Fuse" on the interior driver side fuse block, solves the Flashing Light on dash...
BUT you will also now lose the Auto-Leveling Up/Down feature on your new 2011+ Headlights..
As mentioned.. The cluster can easily be opened to block (tape) the flashing led to the AFS indicator image.
