Default Worried about my IS-F after this security issue.

Has been around a little while but seemed mostly BMW cars with the problems, just worrying now as they listed Toyota as one of the manufacturers.

Can anyone stop me worrying by confirming you can't just code a new key on our cars with nothing more than some manufacturer diagnosis tool?

Feel so sorry for the chap with the 1M, would be devastated losing the F

Yes you can do this with a factory scan tool as we have done it on several customer vehicles. I had to do this to my own vehicle as the dealer only gave me one key for my car and reimbursed me for the second key. If I remember correctly our cars can only have three keys programmed for our vehicle, and the next key in line after that is dropped from the system, though it has been a while since I did it on mine like 3 years! I can look it up in my TIS if you want me too.

Someone needs to do an OBD port locking device and maybe with a tamper alarm on it.

Thanks, slightly worrying - so there is no protection on the system just get a blank key, plug it in and bam you have a key capable of driving the car away?!

so ur saying that if we program another key. it won't allow us to program a fourth one? i think that is the solution. just buy another key and reprogram it. that way the thieves can't program a dummy key.

From what he said I thought he meant the fourth key programmed will render the first key "unprogrammed"

Sadly with the way Insurance works over here you get massively penalised after the theft pushing your premiums much higher.

ur right on that and so that is why I asked the question if it was the case. hopefully they have a way of blocking it.

Strangely over here insurance is lower with car on a drive than in garage. Supposedly being in a garage gives thieves a place to work unseen, don't see it myself as they have to get in the garage first and you could even alarm it.

Then again never did understand how they calculate insurance....
