Yes. It's why I haven't bothered to replace the OEM wheels. They're not exactly super light, but they're not bad and most affordable options are heavier - even some of the less affordable options are heavier too.
I was going to pull the trigger on the sc5 tomorrow morning, but the weight for 19's are 28lbs and 29 lbs and OEM wheel weight is 23lbs and 27lbs. That's just so much added unsprung weight that will slow me down. I'm going to hold out for forged wheels and pay ALOT more, because I don't want that unnecessary weight to cancel out my upgrades.
Does anyone else agree with my reasoning?
I can't believe the SC5 weigh that much. Judging by sight they don't look that heavy. Who cares anyway. Who told you 28 lbs was a problem. My wheels weigh that much and I feel nothing negative at all. It really matters only for racing and even then a few lbs is not going to add to your race times. I'm a little tired of people continuing to say this stupid crap about a few lbs just because everyone else says it.
Anyway, I like the look of the wheel but still would be reluctant to get them. I think they look kinda cheap. It's alright to be cheap but they aren't suppose to look it.
Take a look at the Concept One concaves, they look like they cost more but don't. www.conceptonewheelsusa.com
There are some one piece forged Volks, Advans and a few others that are pretty light. But do not expect a 3 piece forged wheel to be light, it will be heavier than the stock wheels. Wide tires are not light either. My Vossens with tires were barely heavier than the stock 19s with stock tires. Some people are acting way to concerned about the weight of the wheels on a car that is far from being light lol. So unless your really planning on stripping the car to track it, you should not be concerned over something you will not even feel. I have had plenty of 3 piece forged wheels as well as one piece Advans ect. I notice no difference when I put the stock 19s back on. I doubt it would make more than a 1/10th of a second difference at the track. Most people here are just driving the car back and forth to work anyways.
actually those few pounds add up to a lot more than you think becuase you are reducing unsprung weight
I'm not even gonna debate it. I like my 28 lb wheels. I have banged the heck out of them and no bends or nicks. Those super light wheels I tried all look like crap after a while.
I understand that no one wants 40 lb wheels but anything 30 and under.....I doubt anyone could tell a difference in a few lbs. Its just the power of suggestion.
