Default Cruise Control Not Working???

Hi guys..

I've recently noticed that my cruise control cannot set;
I can turn it on (lights up on cluster) but i cannot actually set any speed
it wont work.

could it be due to the iss rmi scoops? I am utterly confused.

Thanks

I noticed that if I am in "F" manual mode, I cannot set cruise... but if I am in standard "D" I can. Not sure if that is relevant to you, but possibly?

No, I believe the cruise control doesn't work in auto either for me,
but shouldn't it work in manual mode anyway?

How fast were you going when you tried to set. Also if you push the arm that has the button toward you it won't let you set it. I don't know if just my car is like that but whenever i push the arm toward me and let it go back to its normal position it won't let me set.

pushing the arm toward you cancels the cruise... To set it, I believe u push it down, to resume from previous cruise that was canceled, push it up... This is from the top of my head since I use it quite a bit on my morning commute...

It's been the same since my 1988 GTS Corolla and every Toyota I've owned since then. Button on end turns on/off. Push down to set. Push down quickly once to set 1 km/hr slower - you can do this in fairly rapid succession to lower your set speed too. Push up to resume. Push up quickly to increase set speed 1 km/hr. Again, in rapid succession you can raise your set speed without touching the gas Finally, pull toward you to disengage cruise but not turn off.

Does not work in manual mode. No idea why.

All of this is in the owner's manual. It's a pretty handy tool for understanding how to use the controls and indicators.

That's what I thought...not hard to read :P
However, my cruise control won't set at any speed (I tried 40 mph)
Is there some sort of sensor malfunction?

Must be. If you can't set it in D, then there's something wrong somewhere. Probably pretty easy to troubleshoot with Techstream, and not so easy with basic tools. More than likely a loose connection somewhere.

My advice is to research which wiring the CC uses (I have no idea personally) and then see if anything of yours is loose at all. You may literally just need a jiggle of a wire to get it to work.

Another easy test would be to meetup with another local F and have them try your car to rule out human error. Either way you can still talk cars a bit and if you're on this forum them I suspect that's enjoyable to you as it is to us. And it would save you a dealer trip.
