And actually...100k mileage for a rear main seal isn't that bad at all IMO. 100k miles! That's a lot of driving!

Funny you mention this....Mine visually looked bad as well....and I was thinking the same thing

Mine was the rear driver side diff bushing. Its cracked and POSSIBLY be torn...however it's hard to tell. You know some bushings are made and they have a slight gap in between and that's normal.

I'm gonna look up in the IS F service manual and see how much work it is to replace it...looks like it could be that the whole rear end has to be taken out because it looks like the bushing is pressed in.

im pretty sure it does. that's what happened on my Z. it was due to wheel hop, it didnt have high miles either . had to be pressed out of the sub frame. sucked.

UGH....I think a LSD should fix the wheel hop...

I don't know what to do after I saw the worn out diff bushing. WHAT ELSE IS WORN OUT? The girl has 100,000 miles on her...do I keep her? Do I get something else?

I mean, if I sold her...BEST I could get is probably $32,000 (I'm just estimating). What car with this kind of performance and good looks can you buy for $32,000?!

More and more as the days go by, I'm getting closer to a Porsche GT3...that will be my ultimate dream car...and it's within reach by next year.

Also in SoCal here....I have a 2010 with 80K now so I'm well on my way to 100K.

No mechanical issues at all for me, but the exterior has taken quite a beating

Pasty!

Nasty!

This was my first time replacing diff fluid. The oil that came out was not as thick as what I put in. i think Toyota recommends Toyota 80W-90, and I put in Mobil 1 75W-90. I called all around and couldn't get the recommended fluid by Toyota. Blitz_714 uses 75W-90 in his LSD so I figured it should be ok.
Hmm interesting..Ithought service manual called f diff fluid replacement every 30K or mayb its just been my vehicl maintanance habit,..at 85K now I have replaced twice at this point....

And now we know more about how your gearbox was used...any why it gave up.

No, the LSD won't cure wheel hop. It can't.

I had wheel hop on 2 instances from a straight launch. It directed me toward my dampners, and come to find out I had a faulty dampner on my driver side, and once replaced no wheel hop... Its quite interesting that you guys had wheel hop because I have never experianced this in a vehicle unless I had suspension issue or was drive error..

Wheel hop can be dampers or bushings or both. Supras suffer severe wheel hop until you get rid of the rear subframe bushings - those bushings are too soft from the factory, and no amount of change to the dampers fixes it.

Beating up the bushings means the car has been pushed very hard many times and when it had wheel hop issues, the driver ignored it and kept the foot in it.

There's driving fast and using the car, and there's driving fast and abusing the car. If you are regularly inducing wheel hop, your driveline will fail and often in multiple places. Shock loads like wheel hop destroy everything from the gearbox to the hubs and everything in between.
