Hood lift support struts..blew out

Hood lift support struts..blew out - covered under ECP
Dam it
....opened my hood this morning and found a small oil stain on the engine cover where my hood strut blew out the seal!
I know this is common on the LS's, but has anyone else had theirs give out yet?
Sewell has replacements cheap enough, and I may as well change both at the same time.
Is there any decent recommended aftermarket generic replacements to consider or stick with the OEM?

I just replaced my spark plugs last week.....so I suspect my mechanic had the hood was up for most of that day.
Probably contributed to its final demise.
....because sometimes generic have build or longevity improvements over OEM, its not about the cost. Its also potentially possible that a Generic maker supplies OE......and because its only a hood strut not an intake valve.

I had to replace both hood struts on an 08 ISF August of last year. Both failed and hood wouldn't stay up. Went aftermarket, I think Amazon or eBay for cheap, and the hood struts provided too much "lift" which would cause the hood to not sit flush with the fenders.
After that, didn't bother to research aftermarket models and went with Sewell, genuine OEM parts. $51/strut. Hood closes flush with correct damping force.

I tried sewell and they were not cheaper than this place and they are factory original supports. I replaced both of mine bout a month ago and my car has 80,000miles.

Thanks to you...I just checked my ECP extended warranty which is 8 years/ 200K (kilometers) on my car and low and behold my hood shocks are covered under Body Hardware.
I did not even think this would be covered, as it seemed to be a wear and tear item.
deemed as ......"Hood and Hatch supports" and listed under Body Hardware.
BTW this is a Canadian Warranty, yours may differ.
Thanks Sean...problem solved.
