Sorry for bringing up an old thread.
looking at doing this for my 08. Was thinking of doing the swap myself and then taking it to the dealership for calibration. Does it need to be calibrated right away after the install or would it be safe to drive around for a bit. I live in Eastern Washington so the closest dealership is a bit ways from me.
Thanks!

Hmm. Pretty hard to say what will happen without a calibration. I didn't even consider it, I calibrated it in my garage with Techstream before even rolling forward. You could always try a short drive to see if it's driveable, but if its not, it might be a really bad day.

I just had the -42 (2013-14) steering ecu installed last week and calibrated with Techstream. The steering is noticeably lighter in normal mode and more direct and quicker to respond when in sport mode! Highly recommended upgrade for anyone on the fence👍

The -41 (2011-2012) steering ecu is cheaper if you want to go that route as well: https://www.discountpartsmonster.com...UtMGwtdjgtZ2Fz

Agreed, don't think Lexus ever stated what changes were done between the -41 & -42 so I just went for the latest because I figured Lexus changed something for a reason after the -41....but it would've been nice to have some extra money from that purchase🤔🤷♂️

I did some research back in the day ..
-41 unit was released on MY 2011 ISF to address the complaints from customers and car reporters about the heaviness and numbness of steering for the early 2008-10 cars. Based on the reviews in 2011, Lexus succeeded and the upgrade was well received, reading about it back then is what made me seek the upgrade.
-42 unit came on MY 2012-14 cars, I was told it had something to do with the newly introduced wider wheels and tires, which makes sense.
Regardless, the overall upgrade, with either unit, from the original -40 unit is significant and you will feel it for sure. The difference between -41 and -42 unit is pretty minor if any, based on what information I received.

I am going to put up my -40 steering ecu up for sale here soon as that is definitely an upgrade for any 2IS-250/350
