Default Question about tire sizes for 19" wheels

Hi all,

I saw some posts about some of you running 245/35 and 275/30 tires setup on stock wheels, and I was wondering if I can run 245/40 and 275/35 on 19" wheels instead??

The reason I want the taller sidewall is because the roads where I have to drive are horrible and I could use the extra 1/2 inch to cushion the ride. My main concern is rubbing against the lining up front ESPECIALLY when turning (not sure about the rear either). I'm sitting on coilovers and I have camber kits both up front and back, so I can adjust the ride as needed to avoid any rubbing at the 12 o'clock position.

245/35 and 275/30 are shorter than OEM tires and have a slimmer sidewalls. I need to order the wheels this week because I'm still running winter tires and it's 70 degrees outside! and if you're curious, I'm looking to get Continental DWs

Thanks!

See response from another thread that is similar to the question you are asking

The stock tire has an OD of 26", the 275/3019 is 25.6" and the 275/35/19 is 26.6" in diameter. The front 245/35/19 is 25.8" in OD. Lexus has designed the ISF to maintain tire height equality between the front and rear. You may or may not notice a difference with the taller tire, but if it were me, and it was, I would keep the ODs the same or very close to equality as I could.

Thanks! actually 245/40 and 275/35 have similar diameters, 26.7" and 26.6" respectively, so there shouldn't be an issue with maintaining tire height equality between the front and rear... the odometer will be registering slower speeds than actual, but other than that (and possibly rubbing) I don't know what issues are there with running this setup.

What are the issues if there's a discrepancy, say 245/40/19 in the rear and 225/40/19 in the front on a stock setup? (in other words, the rears are slightly taller than stock)

The suspension was designed around the stock tire size. Arbitrarily changing it by replacing the OEM sizes with larger diameter tires means the work the factory did to make the car handle is out the window. It might be OK, but odds are the car will be measurably slower on a timed course. If you just cruise and never explore the limits of handling, you're probably OK. If you drive the car hard or push it, you're in for a big difference in how the car feels, responds, and behaves at the limits. It will very likely be bad.

Sounds like I'll be going with plan-B then... I did some measurements this evening and the extra 1/2" is going to cut it real close to the fender liner up front when the wheel is turned, maybe even rub. Thanks guys.
