I think it has to do with the availability of parts. I noticed that the insurance rate on a brand new GT-R was cheaper for me than my 2011 IS-F.

Insurance companies are criminal. They have their basic formulas based on risk and region (how many miles driven per year, how often does this model get stolen, how many accidents does this model average, how expensive are parts and labor, etc.) but then every individual gets treated differently. So it's a crap shoot to try to compare.

I do remember when looking to buy my car that the ISF was in the top 10 most expensive to insure (non-exotic) cars at that time.

If you are within an insurance zone that is considered part of a major city, open your wallet.

Also, the incidence of car theft will impact your rate.
