Default Suspension noise

I recently purchased a 2011 F with 15k miles.

Car handles and rides fantastic. However, i am noticing that over bumps at slow speeds there seems to be a metal on metal clicking/clanking noise coming from each of the 4 corners. The sounds seems to come from whichever wheel is going over the bump. Should also mention that only hear the noise at very slow speeds on narrow streets and with the windows rolled down, there is zero noise heard with windows up.

Curious if others have heard something similar?

i know it might seem rude, but it's one of those issues that a forum thread will most likely never solve.

noise is hard to track, on top of that, how do you know it's metal to metal clicking/clacking? Are you sure it's not metal to metal ticking/clinking? What if you're driving on a REALLY wide street instead of a narrow street?

^^^See the problem here?

Wow - I was never looking for a solution, just curious if the sound was normal/typical. The clicking noise (which sounds like a metallic rattle to me) is very, very subtle - that is why it is only audible on narrow streets at low speed. Wanted to hear from other members if they have heard/dealt with a similar noise before I take it in to the dealer.

Of course you'll be asking your dealer, and we appreciate hearing about your issue. I've heard strange sounds driving slowly on roads with loose gravel, almost as if pebbles were ringing off stuff under the car, can't hear it with the windows up. Did your car have any suspension mods?

Thanks. No mods currently and none in the past as far as my mechanic and I can tell. It all looks OEM.

I had the car up on lift recently and everything looked good - nothing loose. I thought (was hoping) it might have been normal suspension noise.

^ Thanks - might be. I will investigate further before wasting a day at the dealer. Good news is the car rides and handles very, very well!

Not Melvin - Julio.

I think from past posts on this forum, it seems some guys had to have a shock or two replaced because of the noise. Like everyone said, it's hard to really know what the noise is like unless we hear it in person.

I hope the dealer will do something for you. Some dealers say "we can't hear anything. We can't track down where the noise is coming from" etc...send you on your way....

Yeah - i suspect that is exactly what they will say. I will see if I can diagnose the issue, but the noise is so subtle, it's not a huge issue..took me 3 weeks to even notice it.

I am and I have the tools - but my experience is mainly installing aftermarket stuff (springs/sways/coil overs) exclusively on Subarus. But I am sure I could diagnose what the issue is on the F.

Listened closely again last night and it sounds like the sound(s) emanate from whichever corner is going over the bump. It might be the springs/shocks. Surprised that it seems as though all 4 make a similar noise..

just take it to the dealer...see what they say...then report back...maybe something is loose...just have them tighten all the suspension bits.
