California Smog Check Official thread

If I'm not mistaken, the car will pass inspection if you have the PPE / Sikky sensor module. The car is not hooked up to the tailpipe sniffer, they only plug into the OBII port and that module fools the car into thinking it's still reading stock levels. So, IF the tech doesn't do a thorough enough visual inspection to notice the aftermarket headers you will be fine.
Still illegal, but that part is on you.

I'm so happy that they got rid of smog testing up here in Vancouver, BC
I always hated having to remove mods to get my car ready for testing. I dealt with that for many years with many different cars.

I had to smog my F a couple months ago. I only have Joe Z intake and Borla Catback..... passed no problem with the obd2 scan. Lets just say, these two mods don't pass the visual. No CARB sticker on the intake and secondary cats are gone....

Yeah, I don't see an issue with the OBDII side passing, as those with the tune and FBO have shown they've easily passed. But for those in stricter states, and California being one of the worst, there is still a visual inspection. Some techs might not care for a blue or carbon fiber intake, but at the same time, there are some who do. I've gotten feedback that some claimed they failed the smog test (not all on this particular forum BTW), not for the diagnostic side or previously in California being the "sniffer" test, but because of something as arbitrary as an aftermarket intake system. Hopefully none of us run into any issues like that, but knowing that there are tunes out there that can easily keep the parameters within what is minimally necessary to pass, in some cases that's not even enough.

I had an HKS SSQV on my Supra in the OEM recirculating configuration and failed. Passed the sniffer with flying colors, but that one item made the visual a failure. I left the state not long after that. I was sick of the stupidity and the hidden taxes and while the weather is great, it's not enough to offset the pain.
