Default 08 Touch screen death....again

SO Ive had my )8 for a few years. THis is the second time my nav has gone kaput. first time it ate my cd's and wouldn't regurgitate. Got it replaced under warranty then. Now about 2 years later the touch screen will not touch. I can only control music with the steering wheel and ac with the buttons. I have a vais tech usb unit so I cant troll that anymore.

Luckily I bough the extended warranty, its good till next year. so they will be replace it for free.

While at the dealer, the rep tells me this is the 4th time its been replaced. The previous owner had replaced it twice.....he only had the car for a year. So I don't know what the hell the issue is.

Because of this, I will probably buy another extended warranty next year. Unless I figure out a way to add another cd player. I hvent seen a isf with an aftermarket player yet.

Damn I hate that so much functionality is tied into the nav

ugh that is frustrating, reading the stories about this is pretty much the only reason I bought an extended warranty myself. I figured it would be better to spend 1700 for 4 years that covers everything else just incase vs poss spending 2-3k just for a new nav unit. Can you actually buy a second extended warranty once your first runs out? I've been wondering if I could extend my Lexus platinum at 75k

Mine just failed as well, getting it replaced at the end of this month. You and several others have reported that it failed multiple times...

How much would something like that cost to replace out of pocket?

I was told around $3k. Luckily I have a rapport with my dealer and they offered to replace it as goodwill even though I'm out of warranty. I wonder if I can purchase the extended one thru that Jerry guy even though I'm out of factory warranty. Because I am anticipating that the nav will fail again!

They should make this a recall item, almost every 08/09 owner I know has had this same exact issue.

Yes you can buy another warranty after the first. They tried to get my wife to buy one on her ls, but the ls hasnt had any issues.

this can be fixed with a circuit pen writer or electronic shop...the cause is due to extreme heat that melts some circuits on the touchscreen board. there is a thread in the 2IS section with many people experiencing this problem.
it mainly affects cars that are parked in the sun or very dark cars that is parked under the sun.

The CD player stopped working (no eject, no response) on my 08 a couple months ago. Without my iPod kit I would have lost my mind by now.

I have an extended warranty though so I do plan to bring it in at some point.
